In reply to personality profile, new news to me, posted by JohnX2 on November 10, 2001, at 19:19:21
Hi John.
I too am sceptical re: personality dxs. I've read a few of yr posts & fwiw I certainly don't see someone with a personality disorder. I imagine it would show.
>But I do have some of the traits on the
Borderline such as viewing things in black/white;
mainly people are either on my team or my enemy.Me too. Merely symptoms of depression and, for me, social phobia with the latter. On the rare occasions my symptoms resolve (on meds) I shed my distorted ways of thinking & regain some sort of even perspective on life (ie: I'm 'normal').
I score high on some of the tests you mention but as has been pointed out, the multiple choice format is deeply flawed. Right now I'm looking at a 550Q questionnaire given to me (I didn't fill it out). Half the Qs are obviously screening for various affective & 'personality disorders' whilst yr answers to the other half depend entirely upon individual circumstances & are not a reliable indication of personality flaws & the like. The agree/disagree format of this one is too limiting & doesn't allow for neutral answers or *degrees* of agreement/disagreement.
I wouldn't take it too serious...
Best,
J.
