Being nervous is okay -- it is to be expected.
The thing I tell my self about seeing a pdoc for the psych stuff over a GP is the fact that the world of medicine is a really big world. There is just so much to know and one person just cannot know it all. Good GPs are really amazing in that they can get you on the right path so quick. But sometimes there are roadblocks on that path and the really good ones will steer you to specialists to help you continue down the path.
The key is having both a really good GP and a really good pdoc.
You should not have to tell your entire life story your first visit to your pdoc -- and depending on the course of treatment, you might never do so -- it will depend a lot on the pdoc. You will be scared, but underneath that fear, listen to your intuition. You should within a couple of visits get an idea whether the doctor is a good fit. If not, go back to your GP and start anew. You should find a pdoc that will be the right one for you.
