Hi.
> I felt that Zyprexa worked the best for me. It even gave me a little "high" which helped me feel more energetic. The big downside however, is the weight gain. If you are one of the few who can take it without having that side effect, you will be very lucky. It also worked much faster than Geodon seemed to. I was told that I would know within a WEEK if it was working for me but actually, I felt awesome the very next day. My pdoc said that is possible. I think I explained how the Geodon is helping me and that ( for me,) it has made my already insomnical self even more so, hence the Trazodone (on top of the Soma, Xanax and Benedryl I already was taking to sleep because of Prozac). Oh, and I have been taking Geodon ( a daily total of 40 mgs) for a month. I don't know what dosage works best...my pdoc is on vacation and I will discuss where to go with it when he gets back. Unfortunately, I still feel like I need more....motivation and energy. What is your story? Collette
My story? I wish I had one to tell! Pretty much no story since age 10. Depression.
I have been diagnosed as having a form of bipolar disorder for which mania only appears in associated with medication. Antidepressants have caused me to become very manic three or four times. Aside from this, I have experienced a continuous severe depression for the last 24 years. Ouch. That really sucks to write.
I've been on quite a few drugs, some of which have been investigational and never marketed. MAOIs and tricyclics have been most helpful. Lamictal helps also. Right now, I am taking Lamictal 100mg, Effexor 300mg, and nortriptyline 50mg. I have tried Risperdal, Zyprexa, and Geodon. All three seemed to help initially, but I was forced to stop taking them when higher dosages (1.5mg, 5.0mg, and 60mg respectively) produced a "zombie-like" state. Each time, I had been taking 300mg of Lamictal. I have since reduced the dosage of Lamictal to 100mg. I am suspicious that the higher dosage may have played a role in producing the cognitive side effects. Hopefully, I will be able to go back to one of these drugs. I sort of liked the way Zyprexa made me feel better than the others, but I'd like to get a feel as to how well others do with Geodon long-term before choosing which one to try again.
Stay well.
