In reply to ? for Nardil responders, posted by Ed on September 20, 2000, at 12:25:28
Hi Ed,
Nardil was the only drug I had a significantly good response to, until the side effects and diminished effectiveness after 3+ years made me stop it. I too have tried almost everything out there, including Parnate. I have atypical depression. What I have found helpful so far:
1. St. John's Wort, 1500mg/day
2. Lamictal, 100mg/day (mood stabilizer and antidepressant)
3. Zoloft, 100mg/dayI think nardil may have worked for me because it increased GABA and dopamine more than most other ADs. Zoloft and SJW increase dopamine as well as serotonin, and lamictal can increase GABA (it's a glutamate antagonist).
I've had a poor response to noradrenaline meds. I think amisulpride is worth a shot, tho it stopped working for me after a few weeks.good luck,
anita> I am wondering whether anyone who, like me, responded well to Nardil, but had to discontinue it, has responded to anything else? I have not, and I have tried just about everything, including overseas. Just wondering.
