Janet, I've had exactly the same experience with finding out that there even *is* such a thing as Hypo-active ADD. I wanted to tell you, if the Ritalin doesn't work out, don't get discouraged. There are quite a few other stimulants to try. I could not handle Ritalin(actually started to abuse it), but am doing quite well with Adderall. I hope you'll let us know how it goes. Good luck!
