In reply to Anafranil good for sex?, posted by JohnL on June 25, 1999, at 21:35:47
John,
Not sure how helpful this will be, but I took Imiprimine (a TCA) for over a year and my sex life was never better (libido and physical response both).
As I'm sure you know, everytime we try another med, the side effects are a big question mark; and nobody's reaction ever seems to be the same.
It can't hurt to try Anafranil (or any of the other TCA's). They're a piece of cake to wean off if they turn out to be the wrong med for you.
Good luck.
Judy
> I asked this in a series of questions in my previous post. In hopes of getting as many responses as possible, I hope it's OK to present this question once again on a stand-alone basis. I remember a doctor once (not in my area anymore) discussing the various effects of antidepressants on one's sex life. He said Anafranil was great for sex. As I think back on it, I can't decide whether he was being sarcastic, joking, or serious. So, does anyone know? I would think all TCAs would be harmful to one's sex life in one way or another, but maybe not. It sure would be a lot easier to take on the side effects of a TCA if it didn't hurt your sex life, or even actually made it better. Can anyone comment on Anafranil? I'm not sure, but I think it is also called Tofranil and Clomipramine. Thanks again. JohnL.
