In reply to Anafranil good for sex?, posted by JohnL on June 25, 1999, at 21:35:47
> I asked this in a series of questions in my previous post. In hopes of getting as many responses as possible, I hope it's OK to present this question once again on a stand-alone basis. I remember a doctor once (not in my area anymore) discussing the various effects of antidepressants on one's sex life. He said Anafranil was great for sex. As I think back on it, I can't decide whether he was being sarcastic, joking, or serious. So, does anyone know? I would think all TCAs would be harmful to one's sex life in one way or another, but maybe not. It sure would be a lot easier to take on the side effects of a TCA if it didn't hurt your sex life, or even actually made it better. Can anyone comment on Anafranil? I'm not sure, but I think it is also called Tofranil and Clomipramine. Thanks again. JohnL.
Ouch. I should have surfed before asking about Anafranil. Several websites list it as being notorious for causing sexual dysfunction, 20% impotence in men, 85% who experienced sexual dysfunction had it so bad they quit the drug! Ouch. I think maybe that doc was being sarcastic, yeah?
