I agree with this...a number of other conditions (e.g., minor or atypical depression, dissociative disorders, borderline personality, etc.) are being "redefined" as "atypical bipolar disorder" - probably results in some wild goose chase treatments. Obviously I don't know your whole history, but what you describe certainly doesn't sound like manic-depression to me.
