Soft Footfalls Approaching Across Virtual Sands
Kinetic cybernetic sprite
With binary eyes,
Her irises and pupils
Built of digital DNA,
Double-helix spirals
Of chains
Of 1s and 0s,
Arrayed beneath
Chameleon skin
Shimmering on a
Liquid crystal screen,
Emotions
Made numbers
Made emotions once again,
Keystroke caresses
Traveling
Like fiber-optic fingers
Past
A million million
Electronic whispers
To reach through
A rippling silicon puddle
Pressed beneath glass
And touch
A cheek
That flesh
Cannot.An intimacy of icons,
Of hieroglyphic tides
Flowing
From the restless currents
Of one mind
To another,
Protean pools linked
By underground
Rivers rushing
Through
Passages
Where microchip mussels
Cluster
To nibble delicately
On quicksilver thoughts
Flashing past like
Glittering shoals
Of fish.And I await
Her nightly arrival,
A magical visitation
Marked by
A semiconductor
Susurration
Of gently breaking waves
Against
The pixel window
Where I listen
For the sound
Of soft footfalls
Approaching
Across virtual sands.

oh..atticus...i liked that one...i don't know where you come up with your imagery/ideas/phraseology...it's so creative and brilliant...i like it when you leave the object of your affection anonymous, and then the reader can kind of superimpose themselves in the place of her...very mesmerizing...i normally dread reading poetry, but i think you have a convert here...very enjoyable to read!!:) more!

So now I am a participant.
You are so deep.I lounge in your pools of murmuring.
I bath in your words.
Laying back easing down into your spirit.
You are gentling the beast in us all.
thank you for this lovely poem.
you have a symphony of emotions, words and mind.
You play my frayed nerve endings into a sweet song.
I hope I can do the same for you.

Hi Atticus!
The first four words of this poem foreshadow nature and the last two words the creation of technology by man. As I examined this poem more closely I was able to count 23 words which describe nature, 26 words which describe human or animal characteristics and 24 words which describe manmade objects or concepts. There is such equilibrium between all three components which give it an appealing gestalt. There is also a resemblance to haiku in that two of the three components show a pairing of things from nature. And then there’s the poem’s theme, which illustrates the etymology of the word haiku, Japanese “hai” meaning pleasure and “ku” meaning verse, since it describes a pleasurable passing of time with another person (nature) through verse, via a computer, man’s technology. This pleasure would not exist in this medium if man had not created it.
Perfect. Thank you.

Hi Jai,
Glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was about time I addressed the nature of virtual communication, the essence of cyber-communities like Psycho-Babble. Atticus

You have an analytic way of approaching my poems which is so fascinating. I was indeed trying to describe the kind of person-to-person connection that we're engaging in even as I type this, using a metaphors drawn from nature and fusing them with terminology drawn from technology. I even went back over sections where I felt the techno descriptors were under-represented and added some more as I was composing it. ;) Atticus
