I did some sleepwalking as a kid. I remember an unhappy awakening after I started falling down the stairs. Beware of the stairs.
Sounds like the waters are too rough, with these things invading your sleep, better take good care of yourself. I hope it gets better soon

I'm so scared and I don't have anyone to talk to about this. I'm having nightmares about an event coming in September. I hope I don't keep having these dreams, I'm scared to go to bed.
I've had sleep disturbances my entire life and was just reading about adults born premature and the life long effects. sleep disturbances is one of the things premature birth comes with everything I have is on the list, ADHD, dislexia, GAD, depression, emotional/social problems.
I know there are so many people on this site that are suffering in one way or another. We struggle alone, it's not something that can be shared.

Do you have a therapist?? A Pdoc? To talk to and help with the sleep issues?
Were you very premature?

33 weeks 3lb 11 oz born in 1964. I was the first to use the isolet in that hospital, so I guess it was new technology.
I have a great therapist, but it's all about teaching me about anxiety, he's a guru at CBT, not the kind of therapist that your cry about your life, he's about solutions.
I have to get more benzo's next week for sleep

Hi Torrid,
I found I needed an adjunct to my cbt. I had a great cbt guy, and he even told me he couldn't deal with everything. If you need to cry about your life, find someone who will help you do it sanely--that's my opinion.
I have never sleepwalked, but for years had sleep paralysis. You may have experienced it, too. Crushing nightmares, too. For years. Then stopped. How long have you had nightmares of this magnitude? I think seeing another, additional therapist, if you can, could bring you relief. I think it could be worth a try.
September is a long way away. That's alot of dream time.

all my sleep disturbanced have gotten better with age except the sleepwalking, thats the only thing that is worse but it doesn't happen except in extreme stress. I have had so many different sleep problems, sleep paralasis, is that when your mind is awake but your body can't move. that is bad, I have had that where I can't wake myself up I try to screem and kick and punch the wall any thing to wake up. when I was married my husband would have to hit me hard to wake me up. It's not that yor asleep and your not awake in a state of terror but at times aware like part of your mind is aware and anoither part is terrified

Yup. That's it. I still have it every so often, but no longer often enough to dread. And I can kinda' talk to myself when it happens.
Now sleepwalking. What is that like, may I ask? Like blacking out?
Is their a proposed treatment?

when I'm sleep walking it happens every night and I wake up with day ju vue and remember dreaming I was vacuming and find the vacume out. days after sleepwalking I feel very confused and I can't remember anything. It's scary cause I do very complicated things like useing sizzers. I dreamed I was altering a suit and the next day I found an article of clothing cut in half. I get afraid I'm going to dream about cutting my hair and wake up with short hair. I find things moved about and feel very very confused. sleepwalking affects my cognitive function, no long term or short term memory and very confused. It makes a good story but it's not nice at all and it's very scary.I feel like a freak when it happens, I never find adults that sleep walks and I feel like I want to talk to someone who understands it while I'm going throught it

When we first moved to a new condo last year, I was sleepwalking a lot. It's scary. The first time (that I know of), my daughter was home and told me I came into her room and told her there was a door I needed to find. She led me back to my bed, but I just sat there and talked about this door I needed to go through. Finally, she laid me down and I stayed down.
One night I woke up and found myself opening the doors to my husband's and daughter's bedrooms and not knowing who they were or where I was.
Another night, I woke up and found a glass of red wine on my night table. I don't drink and certainly don't drink red wine (take parnate), but I must have gone downstairs and poured a glass, then fell back to sleep.
It's very scary. Those are the only times I know about. My husband snores and sleeps in a seperate room with the door closed, so he isn't aware of this. My daughter stays up late and sees it, but she's only home occasionally. So I don't know how often it happens.

Yes it's so scary, I think it's an experience that you have to go through to understand how bad it is. scared of what you might do in sleep and the inexplicable drain it has on your waking hours. There are different degrees for me. Lots of times in life it was reported to me that I was sleep walking but didn't have the daytime drain, that complete confusion that follows my lucid sleep walking. Well not exactly lucid but I remember dreaming while sleep walking and wake up so confused stuck between the reality of sleepwalking and the fiction of my dreams. It happens from stress, extreme stress and that is the worst time to have to go through it. I go years without sleepwalking but right now it's in my present. It will drift into my past again as months go by with out sleep walking

When my daughter was 13, I woke up at 3:00AM to hear the doorbell of our condo ringing. I ignored it at first, figuring it must be some drunks ringing bells. But it went on, so I got up and found my daughter in tears. She had been ringing the bell for a long time and my husband and I didn't wake up. She found herself running down the street in her pajamas. Scary. We live in the city, making it even more scary. For years after that, my husband and I put our bikes in front of the door at night, figuring that having to move them might wake her up if it happened again.

That poor child, that was so scary. I read that it's rare to leave the house while sleepwalking. I always wake up from the sound and feel of the door opening. I use to wake with the doornob in my hand but never more then one foot out the door.
