If your medication were a choreographer ...

Posted by lissa on July 15, 2001, at 13:15:00

Hi everybody,

I'm not sure where this post belongs. It's more of a silly question than a serious drug question, so I'm putting it on social-babble. I'll be so flattered if anyone answers it, but it's a weird one, so don't feel obliged.

I've been off wellbutrin for a week and, aside for requiring 6+ cups of coffee a day to make up for that lost umph, I've been feeling great. I hope it lasts.

In contrast to how I felt before last week, I am much calmer.

Looking back, I'd characterize wellbutrin as the talented choreographer who directed the steps of my life to the looney tunes theme song (or, at least in the very beginning, to La Bamba). I'm now back to my more Ella-Fitzgeraldy self (odd personification of mind-altering medication, I know).

If your drug of choice were a choreographer, to which tune would it direct the steps of your life?

You know that theme in Carmen? The one with lots of tempi changes? Slow and dirgy, then quicker? That sounds about what I've got right now. Trouble sleeping, tired all the time, but lots of restless motions, and then a ton of energy all at one moment, then gone again.

Of course, my normal rhythm is more Bohemian Rhapsody! Slow to get going, then Energizer Bunny all day, then a slow wind down at bedtime, then slow in the morning again. Not bipolar style, just that "I'm too tense and too afraid of you to relax when you're here, so it's only when I'm all alone that I relax fully" style.

Very creative question. I like it!

I have some Winston and Ellis Marsalis CDs...I am one of those people who can never remember names of songs...but the one I would like to dance to all day long are the ones with the piano, lyrical, intense and satisfying. Jazz has always made a difference if it is on in the background while I am doing something, especially something creative. I can't deal with the horn, at times, it is too strident and demanding.

Cool. Thanks for contributing!!

"Stars all seem to weep" by Beth Orton.

Lissa

If i was so fortunate to find a med that really worked well for me (loosing hope) i think that would sound like the soundtrack of The Draughtsman's Contract by Peter Greenway, (the "speedier" tune of all, i don't know the name of it). The music is written by Michael Nyman (do any of you guys know him?).
Another choice it'd be Barry Lindon soundtrack (Stanely Kubrik), my favourite piece, which i thought was a contemporary music disguised as classic, i lately found out to be a piece of authentic Classic Music played by Handel. I believe that piece to be exciting, passionate, joyful but somehow gloomy and tragic at the same time (that's how my old self used to be, now it's just plain flat).

This is the end of the thread.
