> >I can't kick this laryngitis

Greg, we've told you a dozen times at least! The surgery was on your KNEE, which is part of your leg. You talk with your throat, which is where laryngitis strikes. Knee surgery, therefore, does NOT cause laryngitis!

(There, now it's all better, right? ;-))

>
>I used to really get excited around Thanksgiving and Christmas. But it just doesn't mean that much to me anymore. I still love watching the kids open their presents and all, but I could care less about me.

You just spoke for me, too. When my grandmother died, in 1983, I remember sitting in my aunt's living room, opening presents with the remains of my family, and wondering why? It's still like that for me, but it's gotten easier over the years. Now I'm there to be with my family, and to watch the expressions of love we really exchange -- whatever tangible symbol is inside the packaging. I think that's OK, too, though.

My aunt insists on big Christmases, and always asks for a list from all of us. I always specify very specific things, manufacturer, model number, stores that carry it, etc. That's because if I don't, or if I say, 'something that I don't have to dust or launder', or anything like that, she'll get me a few tons of STUFF. Just generic STUFF, to show me that she loves me. I know she loves me, and I love her. So I get specific, so that I don't get a lot of useless stuff.

This year, I think things might be better. My aunt has been in AA almost two years now, and she's getting a little better about expressing her emotions. And I've been calling her more often, now that she's sober, and sometimes calling just to say, "Hey, I love you." That may help, she may feel more secure now. We'll see...

>
> Oh well, sorry to be such a downer.

Hey! I started the downer, don't you dare apologize for it! I was depressed before you were, niener niener niener!

;-)

Holidays are hard, we all have so many memories tied up around them, and so many anniversaries we date by them. We spend them with family, the same people we're programmed to respond to in sick ways.

At least this year we all have this place to come to an detox. If I can't understand you, at least I'll pat your head or pretend to, or something.

Take care, Greg. January will be here soon enough.

OK, count me in too. I'm in the dumpster big-time, and this is the beginning of my GOOD time of year!

Does anyone else lose their hearing when they get upset? The roaring and whining sounds that seem to obliterate anywhere from 20% to 90% of other sounds?

ANNOUNCING: The first annual running of the Depression Derby at Lumptonian Downs ---

ANNNNNNNNNNNND..... they're off!!!!

All got away from the gate cleanly . . . Racer and Greg are neck and neck . . . .

Coming into the first turn, we see that Racer has a narrow lead over Greg, showing her fine competitive spirit. But, don't count out Greg. He's been battling Laryngitis but still has plenty of horse power. Noa's energy seems to be flagging a bit . . . Coral's careening off the railing . . . .

There may be more contenders in this race, making their appearances and the betting windows are still open....

There's a new entry making his mark or is that Mark is a new entry and he's making tracks. Apparently, he didn't hear the starting gun, but he's gaining on the field.

Sure, that's easy for you to say, you're the one who careened off the railing, so you think you're in the most pain!

Thank you, Coral. With hard work and diligence and the support of my country, I look forward to being at least as depressed and befuddled as the rest of the international contestants.

We should have categories, such as getting out of bed before noon; number of different medicines combined in a doctor-approved daily treatment regimen; number of decades in therapy; vacuuming more than twice a year; time spent watching Wheel of Fortune; etc.

I hope to bring home the bronze for Psychosocial Babble, to be honored among the "also rans" of the brick wall competitions.

Mark H.

Dear Mark,

You can't claim the Bronze until the race is run and it's JUST getting started. And, in spite of what Racer said, who says I can't run just as well in my horribly agonized state of having just careened off the wall???? She's just trying to throw me off the track, not to mention lighting spirit with laughter!

HOWEVER, it is my pleasure to award you the highly prized Diamond Award for bringing a sparkle to our darling Racer's eyes.

Thank you

I'm there, too--double down. But I don't race physically, only in my mind. Those racing, spacing, bracing days of winter....

CONTINUING THE ANNOUNCING OF THE FIRST DEPRESSION DERBY AT LUMPTONIAN DOWNS

...approaching the first quarter pole, Greg threw a shoe, barely missing Rosebud who, using her supernatural Peagasus powers, is gaining after bouncing off the brick wall, Racer's taking a potty break, Noa's napping, Mark is staying in third, attempting to guarantee his bronze, and Coral is circling, wondering which way everyone went . . .

STAY TUNED

I've been incredibly down lately, so much so that i actually thought today about giving an emergency call to my therapist, something I've never done or even really thought about doing. I've had this overwelming feeling of worthlessness, and I can't quite figure out what to do with myself. Apparently I'm not alone. ksvt

At least four of us (PSBabblers) hit brick walls in the last few days. Is this just coincidence? The weather changing? The ....ahem... presidential election? Were the cellar demons especially hungry? Any ideas?

i've been going back to my most self-destructive habits (total i-don't-give-a-damn, self indulgent tv-watching, internet playing, staying up all nite stuff) the last two nights. i had a grisly, truly awful session with my shrink that left me hanging up on him after i called afterwards to try to get some closure - may switch shrinks - then ate 6mg of klonopin to calm down and sleep, woke up deliriously almost drunk from the stuff, decided i hate the guy.
so in a nutshell, i got in my car to go to therapy, wished i'd never gone, and when i came out i don't know whether it was raining harder than my tears, and hit brick walls and felt triumphant doing so. that's sick.
but anyway, rosebud told me, i think that mercury went retrograde onb the 7th, so what can we expect?
oh yes, and for the best, or at least, most extensive med combination award, let me nominate myself. therapist, at my request, added prozac to wellbutrin, eldepryl (selegeline), dextrostat, klonopin and seroquel - not to mention high doses of synthroid for my nonexistent thyroid.

so there! brick walls? more like the 18-inch stone walls my house is made of!

You know, I think you have a perception problem:

Do you watch Ricki Lake? That's popular culture / Psychology of Adolescence
Jenny Jones? Cultural Anthropology
Law and Order reruns on A&E? That's EYE CANDY, plain and simple. (May I have Chris Noth in my Lump Basket?)
Murder, She Wrote? Well, that is self destructive -- unless you don't get Crocodile Hunter... (Or you watch as a logic exercise to figure out why their idea of who done it is laughable)
QVC? Art Appreciation... I guess...
Psi Factor? That's just fun

You see? Mind you, I don't watch all of those all the time, and have never actually seen QVC, but I do watch too much on my lump days. I just decide that the quilt-over-head bit is theraputic. Especially since I don't have either a p-doc or any other doc right now, so can't have any real therapy.

Listen, if we can't be truly productive, at least we have each other to bond with, eh?

6 mg of Klonopin????? That sounds like a lot to me.

And, yes, your cocktail is a hefty one.

Anyone angry???

I am pissed off about being depressed!!!!

Last year at this time, I was in my worst depression, and I don't want to go back there again.

Last night I went to a GREAT concert (Dar Williams???) and was sitting there thinking it I can get through all my work due for Christmas, then I can decide whether I want to keep trying with life. The two times I have overdosed (long ago) were exactly this time of the year, so maybe it is astrological. And I fully realize that I am not even one of the five finalists for THE PRIZE, in spite of perhaps winning the bathing suit competition. Shellie
