I'm seeing my T every 2 weeks at the moment. However, maybe there's too much time between appointments as I can't always remember what we've talked about. It's a very selective amnesia. It's not like we're addressing really upsetting stuff, but I have a blank when I try to recall just *what* we talked about.
Anybody else?

Always.
in fact i can't imagine 2 weeks. heck sometimes when i was seeing my T twice a week, i'd forget from appt to appt...
would it help to write a sort of outline to your discussions? maybe spend 15 minutes aftersession just jotting down the highlights...??not sure...just a suggestion.
but i sure do understand.

Yeah, I can't remember lotsa stuff too. Figger mebbe I pickled my brain some. Been sober for 10 yrs. now. Not to say I haven't occasionally used other substances ;-0
I used to dissociate alot, I don't very much now.
I go 1x/wk. and I try to write stuff down after wards if i can. Just some quick reminders. Then I'll write more details when/if I have time later. Sometimes I just randomly remember stuff.
I tried offhandedly suggesting we tape sessions but she kinda didn't follow up the idea. I think I don't need to so much now, but as a matter of interest to those who dissociate- I would REALLY push to tape sessions if possible. I felt like I was SO wasting time cuz I'd remeber almost NOTHING of our session and what the heck was the point of it all then???????
I think 2 wks. btwn. appts. would be more of a tapering off, maintenance thing. If I was working on 'stuff' I would wanto go weekly.
Just my thots.
Take care,
Muffled

I think I'm going to make some notes - thanks, Muffled and B2Chica for those idea.

I don't know if this would work for you or anyone else....or if anyone else would even want to do it! I come home and journal everything that goes on in the appt....even the small chit chat or sometimes what I hear or see in the waiting room. I do that with most of my pdoc appts. too. I want to remember where we've been, and every word he's said to me. He thinks I have a good memory....jokes on him - I have almost 500 pages of notes!

Wow! I have taken notes in the past with my other Ts, sometimes because I couldn't believe what they were saying to me! ...and this therapist seems to "get" me so completely. But if I can't recall what we were discussing then what's the point of therapy??
Ai, I'll bring my notebook. You guys are so smart!

We reviewed what we'd covered in that last session, and she thinks that given the subject matter I probably disassociated, which I can see happening. We talked about taking some notes and she just cautioned me about writing too much and triggering myself unintentionally outside the safety zone of our appointments. I thought that was really considerate; that she wants me to do the work safely with her in our sessions.
I really do appreciate the suggestions...
