It's weird, over the past year or so I've had REALLY high anxiety, but after the last few sessions I got into more of a funk, started having an "I just don't give a d*mned anymore" attitude, had jags of not being able to stop crying - I hadn't cried more than a tear or two in about 3 years.
Now I'm tending to be pretty depressed, somewhat apathetic, fairly irritable, but not much anxiety at all - it's like I really don't give a freak what ppl think - where usually I'm incredibly sensitive about what other ppl think. I"m not saying or doing anything differently, I just don't care.
Last night I was really depressed and decided I HAD to see my pdoc b4 my next sched. appt. Today I felt better, but I started to wonder....is it better to feel more depressed and less anxious, or was it better when I felt more anxiety and less depressed? I like not having as much anxiety, but don't like feeling trapped in a funk.

I have to say that either option doesn't sound like much fun. I've heard that anxiety and depression tend to co-occur so that people who have trouble with one tend to have trouble with the other.
I'm not sure which is 'better'. Probably nice to switch between them a little... When the anxiety gets too much it is probably good to have a little 'I don't care', but when 'I don't care' gets too much it is probably good to have a little anxiety which tends to motivate.
I think it is probably something about finding a balance...

Fairywings, have you had your thyroid checked? I only ask because I've had a similar back-and-forth between anxiety and depression and it seems to be coinciding with my back-and-forth earlier in the year with hyperthyroidism (anxiety) and hypothyroidism (depression). I'm not at all downplaying what you're feeling or saying it's definitely your thyroid. Just that it may be worth checking out if you haven't been tested recently.
P.S. I'd be hard pressed to choose which is worse.

Hi TG,
Yeah, I had that checked, so I know it's not that. I'm just freaky these days I guess.
Thanks TG and 828

((((((Fairywings)))))) I am not sure if I would want to feel either, they both suck. I am so sorry you are going through so much. I hope your p-doc can help you. ;-)

(((fairywings)))IMO, more anxiety and less depression would be better because you can work on the anxiety. Both are no fun : ( Ask your pdoc what he thinks about that... maybe you need more benzo with an AD to manage the side effects of it until your body gets used to it?

I'm generally delighted to get a respite from anxiety with the non-anxious form of depression. I often think I nurture a slightly depressed mood for just that reason. Mind you, only slightly depressed.
What I really hate is when they occur together.

Hi LW and Dinah,
I normallly can't do anything about my anxiety, no cognitive stuff has ever stopped me from going into panic. Fortunately I do have a benzo, just wish it worked faster!
Yeah, I agree anxiety and depression stinks big time.fw
