Ms. Daisy (and a contest for all)

Posted by fallsfall on March 25, 2004, at 9:27:21

We love you Daisy, Oh yes we do,
We love you Daisy, and we'll be true.
When you're not near us we're blue,
Oh Daisy, we love you!

I'll post the name of the first person to email me with the answer to where this song comes from, but only after people have had a chance to think about it. Email me at Babble FallsFall - a hotmail account.

AllDone was the first to respond with the correct answer.
EmmyS was the second (and only other) correct responder.

The answer is: Bye Bye Birdie

The song is sung to Conrad (a rock star) as he is drafted into the military by his adoring Fan Club.

If you've never seen Bye Bye Birdie, look for a high school near you performing it as their annual musical, or rent the video. It is wonderful fun.

The prize - can I share a story?

When I saw this post, I instantly remembered the tune in my head, but really had no idea where it came from. I still will admit that I've never seen "Bye, Bye Birdie", but what a prize I got for knowing the tune. Without going into too much boring detail, my sisters are a bit older than me and we have different moms (theirs passed away when they were 11 and 13). They didn't like my mom much, but have often told me everything changed for our family when she had me. They accepted and grew to love her because they loved me. This morning, I remembered them singing the song with my name in it. They sang lots of songs to me. So, I called one of them to find out where it was from and we shared some good memories. I reminded the other one about it this evening.

It's kind of a silly song, but it's been in my head all day. So, I took the opportunity to give my little guy some good memories and I sang it to him before bedtime.

Gosh, falls, you don't even know how much my sisters and I needed this. Thank you!

What a wonderful story!

My husband sang the song to my son when he was a baby, and we spent this evening singing that one and the one I sang him ("Mommy's Little Boy") and the one he sang to my husband ("I'm So Glad When Daddy Comes Home").

But he's only seven and was more mortified than reminiscent. I'll bet you and your sisters had a lot more fun.

Thanks Falls!

I would have guessed either Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang or some movie of the Great Gatsby.

I like:
Daisy, Daisy, Give me your answer true...
I'm half crazy, all for the love of you.
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage;
But you'll look sweet, upon the seat,
of a bicycle built for two!
