magnesium glycinate

Posted by nolouise on March 4, 2009, at 13:51:52

Have read several posts re: mag.-gly. After a 2007 full HRT & bio-blood analysis submitted to certified pharmacist of supplement support, mag-gly, 400mg. at bedtime, was recommended along with additional supplements. New HRT great. Probiotics & Cortico-B5B6 also work well. BUT Mag Glycinate had me twitching to the point of "jumping up" from my mattress on the first night. Have been afraid to try again.
My long term diagnoses, arthritis, +ANA (not active), fibromyalgia, & chronic fatigue (Epstein Barr)began 40 yrs ago. Want desperately to regain
strength & stamina after being forced to retire, in 26th yr. of edu.,by rheumatologist. My immune system attacks ME, and all problems associated with above conditions still exist. What is your advice re; restarting mag-gly? Have little to minimum stamina. Appreciate all help.

Welcome to the boards!!
I really have no idea about magnesium glycinate. I just want to offer my sympathy. I've been diagnosed with similar conditions for about twenty years, mixed connective tissue disorder, fibromyalgia which has limited my capacity to be productive. I need a lot of rest. You may not want to hear that but from personal experience with fibromyalgia, rest is important, and a healthy diet helps me a lot too.

hey, if you're still checking, i'm not sure what the glycine might be doing. glycine can be an excitory or inhibitory neurotransmiter, depending on location. perhaps taking it in the morning, if it is energizing; or magnesium citrate might be a better choice before bed.

I second desolationrower, I suffer insomnia if I take magnesium in the evening. Mornings is the best time to supplement Mg, at least for me.
I've found magnesium orotate to be the best Mg-supplement. It's calming without inducing apathy and orthostatic hypotension unless I take more than 200 mg elemental Mg.
