I was told by a chiropractor who practices Applied Kinesiology that I have a hiatal hernia. ???? I don't have any GERD-like symptoms; no heartburn that I can't attribute to stressors like spicey, or tomato based foods. Although I am seriously skeptical about his opinion on this, this doctor was able to give me great relief from my migraine headaches when he suggested a dietary change that I'd never considered before. (Corn)
I have GAD, and my symptoms are not situational. A constant feeling of tightness in my chest, heart palpitations, excess sweating, lots of sighing to try to take a deep breath. Wow, that looks really unpleasant written down. It is really unpleasant. I am not taking any benzos after having been on xanax for 3 years. Of course, when I tapered off the xanax the anxiety symptoms returned, no surprise.
What I'm wondering is whether my anxiety symptoms be attributed to a hiatal hernia, and what can I do to ease these symptoms if this is a hernia and not anxiety?

Hi,
I take over the counter Prilosec. I suppose if I eliminated EVERY drug and food that caused me problems I might could get away without it. But I just can't stand a diet that bland and it would eliminate many food groups!
Also, my meds are a major source of GERD.

I made a few simple dietary changes - timing, mostly, so I am not going to get with a stomach full of dinner. I'm waiting 2 hours after I eat before I climb into bed. So far I am feeling much better.
Lots of parts of me are feeling much better lately. Migraines gone for the moment, too. Still confused a bit sometimes, but I've been making notes and keeping my calendar up to date. It helps a lot.
Huh.
I read up more on the subject of hiatal hernia and see that it's considered the "great mimic"; the symptoms are all over the map and it's been mistaken for other conditions... like anxiety.
Huh.
I guess that's why all the medications my p-doc has tried me on haven't worked besides xanax. I mean, who doesn't feel better on xanax??? LOL.Another piece of my puzzle dropping into place.

That's a funny looking title for a post :-)
The doctor who advised me that I have a hiatal hernia practices Applied Kinesiology. I don't think it has any medical endorsements that I'm aware of, but since it's helped me feel better, I will take that as a sign that it works for me!Here's a link with some information:
http://www.joyfullivingservices.com/hiatalhernia.htmlThe quick fix for me has been to make sure I don't go to bed for 2 hours after I've last eaten. It's got the added benefit that I don't do late night snacking anymore...
best to you,
