I posted on the meds board asking if any of my meds could be causing the IBS flareup I've been having.
But I'll ask here about anything else I might do to try to fix things.
It's getting so bad that I can't go out of the house unless I carefully time it so that I haven't eaten within the last few hours. And forget restaurant eating. Sometimes I even have to fast a bit ahead of time, if it's going to be stressful or if it's going to be longer than an hour or so.
I tried fiber products, and they just make me so bloated and crampy that I am in horrible pain.
And the Immodium isn't working much anymore.

I think I read elsewhere that you haven't had a colonoscopy yet. I really think you should go ahead, you are already suffering the worst part, the day of prep.
I only say that, because your symptoms sound so bad, that you should rule out any other disorder. I don't have much other practical advice. I try to keep some vicodin or darvecet around for when things get too bad for me, but that isn't a practical solution for most. Metamucil timed just right is supposed to help, but it sounds like you've tried everything.
Some med just had a big controversy and got pulled, or almost pulled, but IBS sufferers were lobbying congress because it actually worked.
I have IBD, which is different, but I try to pay attention.
Maybe some of this helps. You have my support, because this is a socially and physically hard part of the body to be affected in.

I have half promised myself to get the colonoscopy, although it seems very creepy and invasive to me. Enough so that I've refused it pointblank up till now.
I doubt they'll find anything though. It gets worse when I'm under stress and some medications make a difference.
I might try non-pharmaceutical fiber. Maybe the real thing won't cause the pain the fake stuff causes. Although I don't know. I usually regret eating my veggies.
Thanks, James. It is a very difficult subject.

The day before of prep is way worse than the real thing. They've always had me so high, that if I was awake, I just found looking at the little tv showing my insides fascinating. Last time, I think my doc was worried about substance tolerance, so she had an anesthesiologist knock me all the way out. It doesn't hurt down there at all. If you are a mess inside, there could be interior pain, but pain med is part of the coctail. Just make sure your gastro person believes in sedation and act real nervous.
A close female friend has IBS, but we don't actually discuss it much. wonder why.
Go for it,

would you want to take a med for it? I seem to remember something called Lomotil??

I'd be delighted to take a medication for it. :) I haven't seen my internist since the Immodium, er, pooped out. I can eat them like candy now with no effect that I can see. :(
My only recourse right now is to try to do my outside things before I eat breakfast or long after I eat. Which isn't great for my diabetes.
Adding one more med wouldn't be a big deal in comparison. I see my internist mid March and I'll check with her then. I'm still suspicious of the Omacor, since taking it seems to have coincided with the increased problem. Prescription superconcentrated fish oil. I'll check with her on that.

You'd think under the circumstances I would.
I can only think that if I have to not eat in order to go out I come home and binge a bit because I'm so antsy and jumpy from not eating.
But still. Even then...
This is the end of the thread.
