I have read about eye twitches from lack of sleep but what about eye pulsations under the skin around the eye?? It looks like there is something under my skin trying to break free! What is going on and why?? OMG should I expect to see E.T.pop out? Is this a normal sleep deprivation phenomenon or am I having a very strange body experience?
Thanks to anyone who can explain :-P

That's where my eyes twitch when they are twitching - not the winking twitch, but the alien under the skin twitch.
Mine last must longer than you'd think they would - I get rested and relaxed and my eye is still jumping away. It seems to take about 2 weeks to subside for me.If, on the other hand, you find you are making plans for taking over the planet, then you *might* have been taken over by aliens.

My experience has been pretty much the same over the years. BTW PC I've been yoga-ing in your honour on and off for a couple of weeks now.

Good on you! I find I am best at the Child's Pose and The Corpse.
I do like a good Sun Salutation, though.

It seems liek a neourolgogical problem or lol im wrong, which could be a possibilty? and what causes it??...is it from sleep or lol i should say no sleep?oops Spriggy, this was meant to be posted seaprtately as a too anyone, unless you know about twithes in th eeye? posssible alien situation but not sure? but I om on sleeping drugs right now and wow they kinda mess you up quickly. > Thanks to anyone who can explain :-PThese are itty bitty muscle spasms in itty bitty muscles surrounding the eyes. If you can figure out how to treat them, you can usually get them to go away.
Warm compresses. A folded washcloth, warmed under the tap, does well. I understand that might not be conducive to makeup or a work environment, but laying one of these on for five minutes every two hours can help restore circulation, supplying glucose, eliminating lactate, and restoring electrolyte balance.
Muscle stretching. I know, the image of someone making faces. Again, hard to apply it, but....I had an eyelid tic that was with me for weeks, until I read that stretching the eyelid firmly but gently would help. It did. Like stretching that charlie horse, it helps reduce future twitchiness in the muscle. If you can put the muscle under gentle external tension, somehow....
Pinching under the nose. This works for horses, and other animals, and is said to work for people, by some totally unrecognized mechanism. The groove under your nose (called the filtrum)....get a finger and thumb a half inch on either side, and squeeze until you feel some pain, enough to "get your attention". Sometimes, that's all it takes to get a twitch to settle down for a while. I never remember to use this one, so it remains a "suggested folk remedy".
Vitamin E and calcium supps. I read about this one years ago, long before I had a clue about this stuff. I was getting recurrent charlie horse and foot cramps.....very painful. Could be coincidence, but this "off the wall" suggestion correlated exactly with the gradual disappearance of those nasties.
I suspect that the annoying nature of these disturbances helps to perpetuate their existence, because they get your attention, and it isn't good attention. So, maybe, pay them some good attention, and they go where they came from?

> ThanksDon't mean to mess with Larry's advice (which is very good), but if you're going to increase your calcium intake you might consider increasing your magnesium too. They work together. I've found that the combo helps me not only with my occasional twitchy eyes, but also with the aches I sometimes get at bedtime and throughout the night.
Some claim that you should take calcium a few hours before the magnesium. Others take it at the same time. I've done it boths ways and haven't noticed a big difference. I currently take 250-500mg calcium with my evening meal (it's absorbed better with food) and 250mg magnesium 30 minutes or so before bed.

As a bonus, the magnesium seems to help a little with the constipation I get with my psych meds! (One of life's little pleasures: a nice crap.)

Well, if you want to be 100% sure, you could check with your doctor, but the amounts I mentioned are under the RDA... they're not megadoses or anything, just meant to supplement your diet. Do you take a multivitamin & mineral?

No, it isn't - but it still might be responsible for what you're experiencing.
