> I have read about eye twitches from lack of sleep but what about eye pulsations under the skin around the eye?? It looks like there is something under my skin trying to break free! What is going on and why?? OMG should I expect to see E.T.pop out? Is this a normal sleep deprivation phenomenon or am I having a very strange body experience?
> Thanks to anyone who can explain :-PThese are itty bitty muscle spasms in itty bitty muscles surrounding the eyes. If you can figure out how to treat them, you can usually get them to go away.
Warm compresses. A folded washcloth, warmed under the tap, does well. I understand that might not be conducive to makeup or a work environment, but laying one of these on for five minutes every two hours can help restore circulation, supplying glucose, eliminating lactate, and restoring electrolyte balance.
Muscle stretching. I know, the image of someone making faces. Again, hard to apply it, but....I had an eyelid tic that was with me for weeks, until I read that stretching the eyelid firmly but gently would help. It did. Like stretching that charlie horse, it helps reduce future twitchiness in the muscle. If you can put the muscle under gentle external tension, somehow....
Pinching under the nose. This works for horses, and other animals, and is said to work for people, by some totally unrecognized mechanism. The groove under your nose (called the filtrum)....get a finger and thumb a half inch on either side, and squeeze until you feel some pain, enough to "get your attention". Sometimes, that's all it takes to get a twitch to settle down for a while. I never remember to use this one, so it remains a "suggested folk remedy".
Vitamin E and calcium supps. I read about this one years ago, long before I had a clue about this stuff. I was getting recurrent charlie horse and foot cramps.....very painful. Could be coincidence, but this "off the wall" suggestion correlated exactly with the gradual disappearance of those nasties.
I suspect that the annoying nature of these disturbances helps to perpetuate their existence, because they get your attention, and it isn't good attention. So, maybe, pay them some good attention, and they go where they came from?
