My girlfriend who died as a result of a drunk driver, was named Ray after her father, because they thought she was going to be a son. A good friend once called me a wonderful woman. The night before I discovered this PB site I had a dream about that friend. We were in heaven and the spirit of love was so overpowering that when I awoke I was still in it. I chose the name, "rayww" to remind myself that I can be a ray of light to others, and a wonderful woman, something I tend to forget.

I would like to thank you BF and Dinah for sharing some of your favorite "Godly" hymns. I may share a couple of my own. Lou Pil, please allow us to enjoy this thread. thankyou. Lou, do you have a favorite hymn that speaks to you? If so, could you also share? I'm sure there will be some who appreciate your hymn without picking it apart. Even though I may not consider all hymns shared "Godly" I can appreciate those which I do. I believe you are capable of that as well. Thanks all.

rayww,
You wrote,[...Lou Pil, please allow us to enjoy this thread...].
Are you saying that my request for a determination as to the acceptability or not in relation to the guidlines of the forum of the post in question has something to do with your enjoying the thread? I have asked Dinah to redirect the posts in the thread to the administrative board and it was her post that innitiated my response.
Also, are you meaning that by me requesting clarification from the poster of [...nothing but the blood of Jesus...]that that has something to do with you enjoying the thread? The poster could have responded with the option offered as "none of the above" or , "something different" or one of the other options but has not yet responded to my request for clarification.
You wrote,[...picking it apart...](the Hymn)
It is not my intention to {pick apart}the hymn. The statement, [...{nothing} but the blood of Jesus...wash away sins...]IMO is a statement on a mental -health forum that is questionable here due to the guidlines of the forum and I am requesting from the administration a determination. So far, it is OK by Dinah to continue the thread. The final decision will be made as I undertand it, by Dr. Hsiung who is away for a while.
As far as your inviting me to join in posting hymns that I would like, thanks for the invitation, but I feel that it is more appropriate for these type of discussions about religious music to be done via email or babblemail or on a different board that accommodates music appreciation.

I'll admit I've been a tad reactive lately, as evidenced on some of the other boards.

Believe it or not, I was trying to calm it down here, and I genuinely do want Lou to share his favorite hymn. I actually really love Israeli music.

Do you have one AntiMel? Especially for Easter?

Yes. This week I have two fav hymns, thank-you for asking. The first is "Come Unto Jesus" #125

http://www.lds.org/cm/catalogsearchalpha/1,17929,4782-1-1,00.html

Second: "Reverently and Meekly Now", #185. After it is loaded, select "words and music". This is the only hymn I am aware of where it is written in the first person, as though Jesus is singing to me (and you)

Although I'm a Buddhist, I've always been partial to the Vaughan Williams Easter hymn, "Hail Thee, Festival Day," for its joyous musical complexity and spirit of celebration and renewal.

Without endorsing any of the words of the hymn, or implying that they should apply to anyone at all, here is a link for those interested:

I wish a warm and happy Easter to all of my Christian friends!

Sung to the tune of "I'm a little Teapot"

I'm a little chickie, (crouch down inside your egg) Ready to hatch!
Pecking at my shell (pecking motion)
Scratch, scratch, scratch! (scratching motion)
When I crack it open, Out I'll jump (jump out of shell)
Fluff my feathers, cheap, cheap, cheap!

I agee.
Handel's life is a fascinating study of one who overcane alot of adversity.
At one point in wrting the song he didnt leavehis house for 3 weeks! A friend reports he visited him and often found Handek in tears, sobbing from the sheer emotions he poured into his song~
The "Messiah" (or Hallelujah Chorus as its sometimes called) debut in 1742...yet remains today as one of the most moving and stirring music ever written.

Here is an intersting article about George Fridrick Handel...

There isn't, unless you count "Here Comes Peter Cottontail"... I think of Handel's Messiah as Easter music because it does not tell the story of Christmas (when it's always performed) but rather of Easter. it's always struck me funny that such a beautiful and most popular choral piece is played when it is.

Or maybe Sunday School. "Christ is Risen" I don't recall all the words right now, but I'm sure I will on Easter.

Since I don't recall the words right now, I should state that it isn't as a doctrine of faith that I like the song, but more because it's the only religious song for Easter that I know.

Christ The Lord Is Risen Today

Christ the Lord is risen today, Al - - le lu ia.

Sons of men and angels say: Al - - le lu ia.
raise your joys and triumphs high, Al - - le lu ia.
Sing ye heav'ns, and earth reply, Al - - le lu ia.

Lives again our glorious king: Alleluia.
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia.
Dying once, He all doth save: Alleluia.
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia.

Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia.
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia.
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia.
Christ has opened Paradise. Alleluia.

Soar we now, where Christ has led, Alleluia.
Foll'wing our exalted Head; Alleluia.
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia.

I remembered that one today!! And yes, it's lovely too. I love the word "Alleluia". It sounds like what it means.

No, this one was a children's song. I have the words somewhere, although I made my son listen to the record (gasp! - dinosaur days) this morning, and the lyric sheet wasn't with it.

My mother will know the words, I'm sure.

"Hear the something ringing, ringing,
Something something something something,
Something something, hearts are singing,
Christ is risen, Christ is risen!
Alleluia, Christ is risen."

That's all I can remember. Bad me. Bad me.

Hear the bells ringing, they're singing
Christ is risen from the dead!

Is that the one?? My mom has a CD by a men's singing group called "Glad" who do a great arrangement of this song.

I know it's not what Dinah meant, but...

I got to sing this twice today (sunrise and regular service)It was great.

I've loved the song since I was little. My mom died when I was nineteen, and when we sing it now, I can *feel* her, in my heart, but also like she is standing next to me singing when I was little. It's special, 'cause for some reason I can't remember a lot about my mom, and since I was an adult when she died, I should be able to (working on this in therapy :-( )

Anyway, I adore this hymn...

I also agree about Handel's "Messiah." What a magnificent, timeless work it is.

Thanks for sharing the website. I had always wondered about the story behind the writing of "Messiah".

I loved that article about Handel. "Messiah" is a universal work that has done more to unite Christians than any other thing. Music is of the spirit. We all sing many of the same hymns in our services, and I'll bet all have enjoyed a performance of "Messiah".
Thanks again for sharing the link.

My son and I, before bed. I ought to start again.

"Whenever I hear the song of a bird,
Or look at the blue blue sky.
Whenever I feel the rain on my face,
Or the wind as it rushes by.
Whenever I touch a velvet rose,
Or walk by a lilac tree,
I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world
Heavenly father created for me.

He gave me my eyes that I might see
The color of butterfly wings.
He gave me my ears that I might hear
The magical sound of things.
He gave me my mind, my heart, my soul.
I thank him reverently.
For all his creations of which I'm a part.
Yes, I know heavenly father loves me."

We ought to start singing our nightime prayers again.

(I don't know where to attribute that song. It's another Sunday School one.)

"Hear the joy. Bells ringing, ringing,
In the far off towers swinging,
Hear the children's voices singing
Christ is risen, Christ is risen!
Alleluia! Christ is Risen.

Far and near the charms (?) are telling
On each word the sweet voice dwelling
Soft and low, then loudly swelling,
Christ is Risen, Christ is Risen!
Alleluhia! Christ is Risen.

Easter morn is saying, saying,
While it's chimes are softly playing,
And all hearts with joy are praying,
Christ is Risen, Christ is Risen!
Alleluhia! Christ is Risen!

My most favorite hymn most of the time is "O My Father" because this is a hymn that speaks to both truth and reason. It also is the hymn that was sung at most funerals of those I have loved. I have received much comfort from it. The tune brings enjoyment, the words bring comfort, and the combination brings peace.
