Has anyone read 'Mind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think' by Dennis Greenberger and Christine Padesky. My psychiatrist keeps reccomending it, but I don't want to make a purchase if it's not worth it. I'm not really into CBT but it might be worth a try.

I haven't read that particular book on CBT. I read the David Burns one. I try to apply some CBT methods sometimes. Wish I could discipline myself to do it more often. It does help me - particularly at stopping the negative ruminating.

I have "Mind Over Mood." I bought it because John Bush recommends it on his web site and it got mostly positive Amazon reviews. It does spell out the standard cognitive-behavior techniques fairly well.
It didn't add anything for me because all those same techniques were in books by David Burns and Aaron Beck that I already had.
In places, "Mind Over Mood" is almost insultingly under-written, as though to a five-year-old or an Alzheimer's sufferer.
One example: There's a short description of Sarah's thoughts as she considers speaking up at a public meeting. Her concluding thought is, "I could be humiliated." The worksheet question is: "Based on Sarah's thoughts, which of the following moods is she likely to experience? 1. Anxiety; 2. Sadness; 3. Happiness; 4. Anger; 5. Enthusiasm"
It also has quite a lot of repetitious passages.
That said, it would serve as a decent client introduction to CBT. Have you read "Feeling Good"? (It's only $8; "Mind" is $22.)

That's one thing I hate in a book. I'm majoring in pschology and medicine, and generally I find the more in-depth, theory based books much more helpful, and I have more incentive to read them.I'm reading a book called "severe depression" by Philio Barker, which is excellently written, but it has a section for clients - that part has the text printed at double size - do they think that depressed people are children or need glasses?!!!
