Oooh.. Its on my list to buy for reading on holiday.. I noticed in this weeks National Enquirer (yes, I know.. I'm sad!!) that they're making a film of it..
My mother in law, the dear, gave me £20 book tokens for my fave books shop as I lend her allot of books.. I thought it was so nice of her so am looking forward to going and getting some for the holiday.. I know one will be "Curious Incident of the dog in the nighttime" and "House and Sand and fog" but not sure what other ones yet!!!
Such fun!!

Not to be ashamed.....I sneak around and read the Enquirer too! My daughters try to shame me.....but I'm a shameless reading hussy! I can't wait for the movie. As soon as you read the book, let me know what you think about it!! I also just read "Writ of Execution"....Easy and fast and gripping....Have you read "Monte Walsh" by Jack Schaefer? He wrote "Shane".....he was a friend of mine, after I read MW we got acquainted.......if you want a realistic look at the old west, please read it. It came out in the 60s and a movie (bad) was made of it. He was one of the most interesting people that I've ever met. I think you would enjoy his writings.

I broke down yesterday and bought it to read now *l*
I'd finished the book I was reading (a MUST read ofr "his Dark Materials" fans.. Its "the Science of Philip Pullmans His Dark materials" (nope, its not finding it!! maybe its only in UK so far and this links to US Amazon.. here's UK link http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0340881593/ref=sr_aps_books_1_1/202-3926679-9295846..) Its aimed at mid teen probably, but damned I enjoyed it.. Now my poor brain is trying to understand infinity and other quantum mechanic kinda stuff.. Its really given me anew interest *l*
Anyway.. so I finished the book on my journey, get off the tube (the underground trains here in London) and it was snowing.. so I *had* to take shelter in the books shop *grins* And nothing leapt out and grabbed me, so I bought "House of Sand and Fog"
Gonna start it in about 45 mins when I get in the bath!!
Thanks for the other heads up.. I shall look it out (I've added it to my reading list in the back of my diary!!) I will read ALOT while on holiday (I'm off for a month!), so want to take 5 books with me to last the first 2 weeks.. then I know I will swap books with other people, and theres a book exchange place 100 yards from where we stay!
Will keep you updated as to how I enjoy the book!!

I work so much and am so out ofo touch with movies that I didn't know it had been done. Glad you're on holiday. Let me hear about the book!!!! I'm starting "The Life of Pi" today.

Let me know what you think?
I will be thinking of you while you read it.

I enjoyed this book A LOT. If you like this I recommend The Tortilla Curtain. It's in some ways a bit similar, and it is a wonderful, shocking book.

Well..
I ahve to say, I was dissapointed / ;et down by the ending.. this says more about me than the book, as I like my endings all wrapped up nicely, and good closure *lol* I think thats why I like John Irving so much, cos he always wraps things up nicely!
but, a really good read that kept me nicely hooked, and didn't go where I was expecting it to at all! Quite a roller coaster of a read.
I bought "The Fourth Hand" by John Irving today.. will start that tonight in the bath *l*

That is so cool. alright is that a line from the book? Or is that all yours?
My mind today is like pea soup.
Green and hot.
Well that's not quite what I meant.
I am having many senior moments today.
Even though I am not that old, yet.
I would love to have a snappy response but oh dear....my snap done fizzled out.
I look forward to your elucidation.

>Hello *smile*
No, that is not a line from the book~ it's 'mine'.
A title in a little black lexicon for my many poems and profound thoughts... precious, this blank book was given to me in 1985 from one of my soulmates in SanFrancisco~ She herself wrote in the accompany card: 'A Dowry: "Thinking In Ink".Thank you for noticing, Jai.
i may just smile all day

I loved Life of Pi too. My mother suggested it to me (we are a family of avid readers) just because the author is Canadian. She has a shameful patriotic streak... much to my surprise and delight, I LOVED it. I introduced it to the book club I was in at the time (which I have sinced backed out of due to anxiety attacks), hosted a dinner discussion of the book where I served Indian cuisine. It was quite a hit. The rapsody Pi makes over his favourite foods really struck a chord with me. I can get quite attached to books and associations they induce.
*Sigh* Book club was very cool apart from having to socialize with the participants. I was SOOOOO out of my league! Chatting with lawyers, doctors and professors really intimidated me, and in the end it got the best of me. How about a PS book club... we could read and discuss books here. Has it been done already...

Thats how the books page here started.. we would all vote for a book to read, and then read and discuss it..
Then it kinda of branched out to get more posting and we haven't had a book chosen for us to read and discuss lately.. That could be alot of fun.
Annoyingly I go on holiday monday for a month so wouldn't be really be involved if one were chosen now!
