Just wondering if anyone has read this, and how was it?
The double double quotes - that's only for the message not the subject line, correct?

Whoops! That doesn't work. I wonder if Weird Al's book is a spoof of the one that linked?

> Whoops! That doesn't work. I wonder if Weird Al's book is a spoof of the one that linked? This is odd. A few months ago I saw the movie Ghost World (great movie) and there is a reference in there to Weird Al Yankovic. The week before this one, there was an article on Weird Al in the paper. And Sunday, he was a guest voice on The Simpsons!
What does it mean?????
I looked up the article, and it says his last album was Running with Scissors (it went platinum!) His newest album is called Poodle Hat.
The book, "Running with Scissors" is by Augusten Burroughs. This is how it was described in the newsletter from the bookstore:
"When he was adopted by his mother's shrink at age 13, Burroughs's childhood turned into electroshock fun and games, month-long patient sleep-overs, lithium, valium, fake suicides and outrageous moments you won't soon forget"
I'm pretty sure he's not related to William S. Burroughs, but how freaky would that be??

Hmmmm. I wonder what was copyrighted first? If Weird Al's album was finished up before the book, that would make it especially strange. My guess is the book was made first, and then *perhaps* Weird Al is definitely doing some kind of spoof of the book in a not as yet obvious manner. I suppose one would want to read the book (if it was first), then listen to the album to unravel the psychic mystery...... the results might be more interesting than the curiosities going into the project.

I don't know which came out first. Perhaps they were both just having fun with the classic parental admonishments: no running with scissors, if you keep doing that your face will freeze like that, it's only fun until someone loses an eye...
Watch for the follow-up project "Are We There Yet?"!!
Or it could be like that Pink Floyd/Wizard of Oz thing :)

I read this book recently; it's about a child abused by his parents and by his mother's therapist and his extended family (with whom he goes to live). The therapist is ludicrous and has no sense of boundaries at all; indeed, he's got an omnipotence complex. Fortunately, he seems to have been a relic of the 1960s and 1970s. We would rarely, if ever, find a psychiatrist like that today.
The book was witty in spots; sad mostly. I am glad that I read it, but I wish that the author had done more analysis of the situation: mostly he tells the story and leaves it up to the reader to be horrified.
This is the end of the thread.
