Bobs pretty educated....and IMO has not got blocking down pat yet....
Bob has chosen and educated his deputies in what his criteria are.
This is Bobs site.
Blocks hurt me terribly. On assoerted levels. I have a problem with the blocking system.
But I think the deputies and Bob are probably just doing the best that they humanly can.

Karen - I think of Babble as a peer run support group. Bob definately oversees the place, but basically it's a bunch of psych patients all trying to help each other out (on the good days).
I'd hazard a guess that most websites for us are also peer run, for the most part.
If Bob disagrees with anything a deputy does, he just overrules it. If you have an issue with what may look like some unfairness...take it up with the big guy. It all lands on his desk.

Calling someone mere, is dissing them in my book....*Implying that 'her own problems' would interfere with her judgement is dissing someone in my book. And we ALL got problems....

I have issue with the LENGTH of blocks.
Some have issue with fairness as well. But since when has life been fair?

Final note from me; I don't intend to return to this thread. Sorry I used the term "mere." My point is that I would not put myself in the position of being a deputy, and I am a psycholgist. I am also dealing with depression, and I am struggling with whether or not to do ECT as it could mean the end of my career. With any negative consequences, I would most certainly kill myself. My career means everything to me. I don't take anything lightly.

I don't think you need to have a degree to be a deputy of this site, in order to a good job. A degree means you spent a lot of time in school and yes it is wonderful, but it doesn't mean that you are any more adjusted personally than anyone else.
My T has 2 siblings who are T's and one has a drinking problem and the other one suffers from depression. My T has his share of personal problem too, I am sure. I have met a lot of PHD's in a lot of professions, and they aren't any better than anyone else. Those who think they are better, well ummmm. I can't say what I want, but ummmm..... well, they have T's who can help with that personality disorder. LOL

Thank you for clarifying your point, though I'm still not sure what being a psychologist has to do with the selection and actions of deputies. Frankly, the balance of costs to benefits wobbles back and forth a lot. It's leaning more and more towards costs, so I don't know that I'd recommend becoming a deputy to anyone at this point. But if you were to ask me in a few weeks, who knows?

I know the struggle of depression and how it can impact professional practice. I'm sorry you've had to deal with it, and I hope you find the right treatment for you very soon.

As deputy, she is not acting as a psychologist, psychiatrist, or therapist. The deputies do not squash measured and balanced discussion of meds, straightforward presentation of information, or accounts of personal experiences. They are executing Dr. Bob's site rules wrt civility as outlined in the FAQ. It is a separate thing from their professions.

There are guidelines here regarding what kinds of messages are OK, and the deputies have demonstrated that they understand those guidelines. They've been here a long time, they've been able to follow the guidelines themselves, they've been though an orientation (sometimes a long one), and they've even passed a final exam. In a way, they've been "trained" to be deputies. And their actions continue to be subject to review by me.
At the same time, they have problems. And problems can interfere with judgment. But we all have problems, even those of us who are professionals.
This isn't a perfect system, but the community tries to work together and to self-correct, and together I think we've done OK so far.
