I'd first like to preface this by saying I am a male and have never been diagnosed with an eating disorder. I started Remeron when I was 6 feet tall and 155 lbs a couple years ago. I eventually ended up weighing 212 lbs because of the Remeron-induced weight gain. I wasn't on any other medications that cause weight gain at the time so it was definitely the Remeron. The good news is I lost almost 60 lbs in 7 months and now I weigh 155 lbs. The bad news is that my stomach and face look like I weigh 190 and the rest of me looks like I have a terminal illness. I must have lost 35 to 40 lbs of muscle and apparently that is what often happens when you lose a lot of weight quickly. The lowest I can safely weigh without being dangerously underweight is 145 lbs. I will never be able to look normal ever again due to Remeron. For the rest of my life I will have to live with a body that I hate. Not only will I have to live with a horrible body, but there is a direct corelation between appearance and socioeconomic status and thus I have significantly less money in life. Remeron ruined my life. Please stay away or you will regret it for the rest of your life. I seriously want to just kill myself rather than live looking like this.

The weight gain is well known. Yet, Remeron is much better for depression than many other meds.
You can try metformin along with it and see if you can hold your weight like this. Maybe, if it works well you can even reduce weight while still being on Remeron.
When you say "permanently destroyed my body", you mean that your skin is stretched out and wont go back even if you loose the weight?
Thats not good and possibly could have been prevented with metformin. People on AAPs and/or Remeron keep telling me that they dont want to take so many pills.. But i argue that obesity is much worse than the side effects of Metformin. Personally, i have none.

Weight gain stinks but I think it's inaccurate to assume you'll never be happy with your appearance. If you need some muscle mass try creatine maybe.....it really helps full out your muscles by helping them to produce ATP and retain some extra water.
"I will never be able to look normal ever again due to Remeron."
Have you ever thought about cognitive therapy? Even if to just get a self help book on it? That line/thought is all or nothing thinking & fortune telling. Thinking that will only make you feel bad - it's not a fact. Cognitive therapy goes over how to challenge the way you are perceiving reality.
Anyway congrats losing the weight - many never are able.

Well...for some context....
I am 6 feet 2 inches...125 pounds and *wish* I could gain anything.
I cannot gain a single pound. Not one! Remeron at 7.5, 15, 30mg has done nothing.
This may be related to my addiction to pure cocoa, but who knows...

I took a month of remeron 15mg for sleep. At the end of 30 days both felt nothing and also no weight gain so cold turkeyed it with no withdrawal. Phillipa

What I mean by permanently destroyed my body is that I currently weigh 155 lbs, but I look like I weigh 190 lbs. Instead of losing 60 lbs of fat, I ended up losing about 40 lbs of muscle and 20 lbs of fat. The absolute most I can lose without being unhealthy for a 6 foot tall male is 15 lbs. However, if I lose those 15 lbs I will only be able to eat 1900 calories a day to maintain my weight which is nearly impossible to do long-term for a 6 foot tall male. I will never look the way I once did. I'm only 32 and my face and body are already completely ruined

Try coffe, cocoa powder and green tea. They do wonders. One cup of each every day.
I'm serious. Cocoa contains epicatechin which (similar to metformin) is a ppar-gamma agonist.

You should start lifting weights to regain muscle mass.

Yeah, I'm going to as soon as I lose another 15 lbs. I'm also a huge baseball fan. What's the 55 for?

You must give it time. How long has it been since you stopped Remeron? I'm female & took 7.5mg for 2 1/2 yrs. I gained 30lbs. It took 6 months or more aftr I stopped it for my face to stop looking "puffy". I lost weight right away but the puffiness took awhile. Plz give it time. Our bodies r amazing at righting themselves. & I agree about green tea & cocoa. I drink Japanese green tea every morning & have a square of 90% Dark choc. I've had many people tell me that I look much younger than my age (51)! I was astounded when my future daughter in law's grandmother said I was the prettiest 50 yr old she'd ever seen!!! This was recently & long aftr Remeron. Chin up & drink green tea! : )

I would start now. The object is to add weight with muscle, not to lose more. The 55 is just a number that's meaningful to me.

You know I just decided to start adding muscle the other day. If I lose any more weight I'm just going to perpetuate my awkward shape from losing all the muscle. Thanks I'll see how it goes.

Generally, when using resistance training to build muscle mass, you want to make sure you consume enough protein to build muscle - 40-50 grams per day. Also, get a personal trainer, if only for 1-2 sessions to teach you effective exercises. Explain to him/her that your goal is to rebuild muscle lost when you lost weight.
Added muscle will make you weigh more, but you won't look heavy because muscle mass is dense. Good luck!

maybe you have low testerone, did you get it checked? losing much weight can also affect the skin and make you look old if you dont get enough protein and nutrients.
This is the end of the thread.
