Generally, when using resistance training to build muscle mass, you want to make sure you consume enough protein to build muscle - 40-50 grams per day. Also, get a personal trainer, if only for 1-2 sessions to teach you effective exercises. Explain to him/her that your goal is to rebuild muscle lost when you lost weight.
Added muscle will make you weigh more, but you won't look heavy because muscle mass is dense. Good luck!
