I love my Geodon, but I'm having breakthrough manic symptoms in the evening. I've been using 5 mg of Zyprexa to treat it, but I'd rather just take more of the Geodon. Anybody use Geodon at this high a dose? Anybody see any problems with taking this much Geodon?

i took geodon 160mg with zyprexa 10mg in 2009....it zoned me out....made me really calm in my thoughts....but also it really took away my personality, made it more to calm and compliant.....but if your taking vyvanse that will help some....
but still thats a high dose, i don't think geodon has tartive dyskenisa in it's side effects, its been on the market now for about 10 years....
maybe take 2 80mg at night and 1 80mg in morning?

>Yes I think being on Vyvanse will help some but I am on Desoxyn + MAOIs and I still don't think they cancel out the Abilify too much. It's still dampening. Especially if you're taking stimulants regularly, that becomes your baseline, your normal.

I have a friend who got TD from Geodon, seems like a considerable risk at 240mg. What are you taking now, by the way?Eric do you take your Geodon BID or just once?
240mg seems a bit high to me but I'm no expert. If you can handle it, aren't afraid of TD, and would otherwise have better symptom control without too much expense to your personality/ general functioning in other areas... that's what really matters I guess.
Ask your doc, maybe he can ask a few colleagues if he's not sure.

What about bringing in Depakote and leaving the Geodon alone?

I dunno man. I'd up it, personally, until I got calmer. Are there psychosocial, or physical issues that need to be addressed?Maybe night time Ativan or something? That might be a cheaper, kinder, gentler way to handle it instead of going over the top with a neuroleptic. Then again, 240 Geodon isn't unheard of...

what about taking part of the dose off and saving it for later in the day as a booster? or a bit extra at night?

I just gave up on the Brintellix, it was making my mood go sideways, even with added carbamazapine.
I'm having a hell of time finding an antidepressant that doesn't completely destabilize me.

Have you tried Latuda, Eric?
According to Stahl it along with quetiapine and the olanzapine-fluoxetine have the most consistent positive evidence for bipolar depression.
Adding a little Latuda could help with even out your evening moods too.

And Eric are you eating at least 500 kcal with your Geodon?

Viibryd? Or one of the older SSRI's. Lexapro is a bit of a workhorse. Helped my friend with her ocd and depression.

I'm getting manic symptoms despite being on lithium, carbamazapine and 160 mg of geodon. Ativan won't treat the mania.

Viibryd worked extremely well for me and then it just stopped working. Lexapro made me very depressed.

> EricYeah, you could even take it TID or QID for more even coverage... or you might prefer most of it at night to squash any building mania and then space the rest out to cover the whole day. It's like the time-release ADHD medications, there are a million different formulations of the same two drugs, all based on how much of it is released at what time during the day. You can make your own dosing schedule to fit your needs.
And good that you're eating with it.
Also Ativan helped stabilize me (except for the behavioral disinhibition) when I wasn't on enough mood stabilizer. Supposedly Klonopin is better for this but you know your illness, just saying.

What about pramipexole for the depression? It's generally regarded as OK for bipolars. Modafinil too
