I don't have any statistics, but it's still frequently used in bipolar disorder. Most likely, antipsychotics are used more commonly because they tend to provide more rapid and substantial 'control' when initiated during acute manic states. In addition, some antipsychotics such as Seroquel have demonstrated efficacy in bipolar depression as well as mania. Depakote on the other hand is predominantly anti-manic.
In acute mania, atypical antipsychotics have similar effectiveness to haloperidol (Haldol) but tend to cause fewer adverse effects.

I've been on Depakote circa 1,500 mg for almost 20 years (minus two hellish years when I wasn't on anything). I'm also taking two anti-psychotics (Geodon 80 mg and Latuda 80 mg). The anti-psychotics are extremely powerful and helpful but without the Depakote my bi-polar disorder just can't be properly controlled. Might not be fashionable but that's OK by me.

What benefits do you get from Latuda? Is there a reason why you combine it with Geodon? I tolerated Geodon well but it only helped with mixed/mania. Does Latuda have any antidepressant qualities? Thanks, herpills
