this is funny....i'm watching a show called taboo...a couple minutes ago they showed a severe case of OCD this guy would take long periods of doing things around the house and he had rituals and had to do senseless things because believed bad things would happen if didnt do these things. He went out to the trashcan to take the trash out....he opened and closed it litterly 5-6 times, then threw it in the trash...then digged it back out...did the same thing over....had to at least be 20min of this. Did the same thing with washing clothes, opened it, shut it over and over. He thought if he didnt do these tasks, bad events would happen...a little over obsessed with the law of cause and effect... But he waited tables and he was perfect in every given task he was given, like shined every task to feel that everything is done correctly. That's I think i symptoms of it...everything has to be perfect, and trying to achieve this through ritual and obessed stuff... .but I think the underlying thing is he did these things to avoid bad feelings, and also believing they would prevent bad stuff from happening.

but....yea, i guess...i do have some of it, but i don't do psychical things like repetaive things, its just in my thoughts and it drives me completly insane, usally i distract myself and think of funny dumb things i've done, or some random person I saw earler. It does work...sometimes. It's hard to get rid of it, the thoughts tried to use to stop it are connected to the ocd and it will make think over and over...like it spreads every thought like a virus. Nasty...

that's my 2 cents :)

I do but it's gotten better over the years with the luvox. But since it's in the anxiety spectrum. I think since I started with panic disorder that a lot of Gad, Social Anxiety Are also mixed it. I ruminate and worry consistently. Phillipa

I have endrogenous depression, GAD and panic disorder, and my sister has OCD...... so I guess i probably have some OCD traits that are supressed by the drugs I take for the other conditions

I was told years ago that the best RN's & Doc's usually have some OCD and that is what makes they good. Very fine tuned to details and picking up mistakes before they occurr. It's when it causes problems for the person like a switch takes it another level that it becomes a problem. I don't know this for fact but it makes sense to me. Phillipa

Yup if you didn't care you wouldn't be this way so in a way it's a good thing. It's when it takes up your whole day with rituals and counting etc. It's a problem. Phillipa

Not in my experience. I have OCD, but I don't experience a lot of general anxiety. However, my OCD has triggered panic symptoms that would qualify as panic disorder.

I have met many people with anxiety issues that do not have OCD.

Panic Disorder has features that one could easily identify as OCD, but they are not truly OCD.

If you've ever asked yourself, "Why did I have that thought," then proceeded to think about, then you've experienced some OCD.

What are you on, Jono?

Sounds kind of like you. You avoid thinking about certain things to avoid feeling bad and you fear bad stuff will happen if you think about certain things.

>its just in my thoughts and it drives me completly insane

I know the feeling. Please talk to your doctor about switching to Luvox or Clomipramine.

You are so right. I couldn't put it better my self.

Oh and if the Zyprexa akes you feel dull, go back to the Fanapt as you seemed to do better on it.

Currently on Zoloft 100mg, Welbutrin 300mg, and Xanax 1mg 2-3 times a day prn

I sometimes wonder if my thoughts of suicide are some sort of OCD, thinking that to block out some other thought thats even worse?

If the thoughts are intrusive and recurrent, they qualify as OCD thoughts.

The sentiment that your suicidal thoughts are masking more hideous thoughts is a classic example of an OCD thought. The thought is intrusive and the fact you wonder about it makes it a recurrent thought.

How often do you think of suicide?

Suicidal thinking has been the only bit of OCD I haven't been able to shake.

I think of it every day - despite tha fact that the antidepressants have euthymic. Partly its because i am so over living with the anxiety (which isnt resolved), but i have been starting to wonder if my thoughts of "it'd be better to just kill your self" are the equivalent of an OCD person having to count the slats on a venitian blind repeatedly or whatever?

>I think of it every day - despite tha fact that the antidepressants have euthymic.

Wow, you have the same exact OCD I have-constant suicidal ideation despite euthymia.

This manifestation of OCD is often referred to as 'Pure OCD'-obsessional symptoms without compulsions.

I wouldn't liken your recurrent thoughts to counting slats on the venetian blinds. Those compulsions are usually carried out to ward off bad thoughts.

What you are experiencing is simply obsessional thinking. You have the bad thought and then you obsess on the bad thought.

Have you ever visited with a therapist who specializes in treating OCD with ERP (exposure and response prevention) and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy)? If you want to deal with this obsessive thinking I'd recommend you do.

On the medication side, Zoloft should be helping with this type of thinking, but maybe its not as effective as it should be. Have you ever considered trying a different AD?

Another thing you can do is add an atypical antipsychotic, which will calm down activity in the nucleus accumbens, which is often overactive in those with OCD.

Adding Clomipramine is another strategy-basically Clomipramine is considered the best treatment for OCD.

Sorry for the barrage. I don't know what kind of impact the suicidal ideation is having on you, but I hope some of my suggestions make sense.

I have only ever seen a therapist who did mindfullness meditation, I stopped going because it seemed to be a crock of you know what.

As for AD's, I've tried quite a few, and this seems to be the golden cocktail for me, I failed on Paxil, Celexa, and Effwexor before convicing a doctor to try this combination aproach.

I'll look into the therapy you have suggested - that and CBT (I did online CBT and again found it unhelpful, it seemed designed for self sorry dullards with absolutly no insight into their condition)

Mindfulness is so zen. If you don't have the right therapist espousing it, it can seem like caca.

>this seems to be the golden cocktail for me,

More like bronze, maybe silver. You shouldn't be having suicidal ideations on a daily basis!
