Hi to all....well it's been almost 3 years of being off anti depressants. Due to changes in my life situation, the return of panic attacks...and a very tough depression....I started taking Zoloft yesterday. I had good luck with it in the past, just never thought Id have to go back on it again. My main side effect 2 days in is nausea.
I dont remember that being a problem before, but I know it is very common.Any general advice to help me remember what to expect would be appreciated
thank you
BF

Hello! I took a little remeron with the zoloft and that kept alot of the start up effects at bay. I also started low and went up slow.I felt that zoloft was a very good med, and very effective for worry. Only thing,it made me gain weight, but I did take remeron with it,so that is probably the culprit. Good luck to you!

Zoloft seemed very effective for killing off almost any anxiety but it wasn't good for me due to it's emotional numbing among other things. But don't let that deter you since most meds don't work for my Accutane induced treatment resistant melancholic depression anyway.
It has some effect on dopamine so unlike most SSRI's it's less likely to have cognitive side effects supossedly.
You might experience some tiredness early on. Much of that may go away.

I have just come off after poop out, but for a few years was a life saver . It can be a bit blah an loose a few imotions but thats a small trade off for being well other wise. I was on generic sertraline but a great ssri, The start up side effects i carnt even remember any ,not so bad on sexual side effects for me at 150mg

It's hard to tell how things will turn out a second or third time around on the same med. Sometimes it works out great, and sometimes it feels like a different med. Side effects can vary.
I do think it makes sense that if you feel you must go back to meds to go first to whatever winner you had in your history. Zoloft it is.
I guess my only caution would be that I strongly feel dispensing any ssri without a counter-balance NE drug does 3 negative things....1.slows potential kick-in time; 2.tolerance, poop out, happen sooner; 3.robs the patient of the full potential; 4. produces more intensity of any post-ssri syndrome symptoms.
Just my opinions anyway.
With that in mind, right from the start, I think it would be a good idea to put a smidgen of a NE med in there with the zoloft. That would include things like savella, nortriptyline, desipramine, sometimes stimulants ritalin or adderall.
But of any single thing I could say on restarting the zoloft, this would be the most important in my mind. That is, get some rhodiola rosea and take it every day along with the zoloft.

Nice to be remembered....thank you.
I wish it was under a different website...lol!
But, I guess my thinking that I was "cured" over the last 3 years was not very well thought out on my part.
Glad DR BOB has kept the site going...it contains a wealth of info and helpful advice from folks who have "been there, done that"....I have another question, open to all.
I know it takes 2 to 4 weeks to begin to get the effects of an AD in one's system...but I could swear I feel some effects already, in between the main side effect of nausea.
Must be a placebo effect....I know it cant work that fast...or can it?BF

Well it has been over 3 weeks and the medication is having a pretty good effect, even on a low dose. The side effects lasted about 10 days....uncomfortable but tolerable. Motivation is still a problem. Should I give it more time? thanks in advance BF
