Hi,
I'm starting paxil cr 25mg for the first time today. Number one, should I be taking it at night or in the morning, i forgot to ask my doctor. It kinda felt like it might have made me drowsy this morning. Also, what can I expect from this particular drug...i'm really looking for both a mood boost but *especially* help with the obsessive thinking, compulsive med research, psychobabble posting (like this one itself!), just doing things that aren't really good or useful for me in the long term. Time wasters. Doctor wants to treat the hypochondriasis part of the diseasse, where I am obsessed with my own condition and my ability to manage it to a degree that everything else is pushed aside.
I have heard anecdotally that OCD symptoms only start to remit upon higher dosages of SSRIs like paxil. I'm 225lbs, is 25mg typically too low to see any impact here?
I probably wont be the best judge myself, but would definitely want to increase dose if doctor is ok sooner rather than later if I am not feeling anything.
Also in general, what do you guys think of paxil as the most selective SSRI? I'm BP2.

Hey U.

Paxil is the most tightly binding (highest binding affinity) of the SSRIs. Celexa/Lexapro is the most selective.
40mg is a good dosage for OCD. You can go up to 60mg.
As always - good luck.

Scott since paxil was the first I took for panic/depression at the time with benzos and it made me extremly tired. Also 25mg of lopressor as that pdoc said would be too stimulating for me. Now taking the low dose luvox and lexapro. So could you explain which would be better for anxiety quick to think the worst panic as new new pdoc next week not my choice mine retiring? Sorry hijack. Uncouth,
I think the higher does are for OCD symptoms. I took it for anxiety but I know what you mean by the symptoms your describing. It is supposed to really work for them.
I have some OCD and paxil definitely helps me.
Best,

Well, I liked Paxil. I am BP2 as well, and it pooped out on me after about six months but I did not have the correct diagnosis then, and maybe had I been in a mood stabilizer too it would have worked longer. All the ssris stopped working for me after a few months to a year. The doctors told me it is common with bipolar. But evybody is different and your cocktail probably makes a big difference as to whether an AD will work for you.
Supposedly it causes weight gain and fatigue in lots of people but I never had that, and I was on a lot more than 25 mg. I think that really is a low dose but just monitor yourself.
This is the end of the thread.
