Starting Paxil for mood / OCD, what to expect?

Posted by uncouth on October 11, 2011, at 12:19:01

Hi,
I'm starting paxil cr 25mg for the first time today. Number one, should I be taking it at night or in the morning, i forgot to ask my doctor. It kinda felt like it might have made me drowsy this morning.

Also, what can I expect from this particular drug...i'm really looking for both a mood boost but *especially* help with the obsessive thinking, compulsive med research, psychobabble posting (like this one itself!), just doing things that aren't really good or useful for me in the long term. Time wasters. Doctor wants to treat the hypochondriasis part of the diseasse, where I am obsessed with my own condition and my ability to manage it to a degree that everything else is pushed aside.

I have heard anecdotally that OCD symptoms only start to remit upon higher dosages of SSRIs like paxil. I'm 225lbs, is 25mg typically too low to see any impact here?

I probably wont be the best judge myself, but would definitely want to increase dose if doctor is ok sooner rather than later if I am not feeling anything.

Also in general, what do you guys think of paxil as the most selective SSRI? I'm BP2.
