Boredom is not one of the states that psychiatry has determined to be an illness.

Consequently all current treatments are illegal.

Lets see do the internet as you know, listen to music on the sites posted on facebook, walk the dogs, ride my bike, read a book, mow the lawn, and would love to walk out of this relationship and head to Florida. I'm trapped. Hence bored. I've traveled all of Europe, the Carribean, Mexico, Bermuda, up and down E Coast many times, San Francisco. No wonder I'm bored I can't afford to do these things anymore. Got some extra? Phillipa

Phillipa, I'm just thinking out loud. Sometimes I feel bored when feeling avoidance of...? Avoiding feeling and sensation take up a fair amount of my time, not really allowing me to relax and feel more deeply into any activity. When I am also not allowed to do what I want to do--a creative endeavour which is just about 24/7 these days--I waste time in unsatisfying ways that don't really touch me.

Looking at what I've just written, boredom to me is agitated listlessness.

You know, we both have a fairly high daily pain level right now; there's no way to compare our levels, however, could that be a factor.

Sometimes I am absolutely bored beyond hopelessness because I am busy with have-to-do's. All those countless stupid things over and over.

Then, when I was fairly young, old enough to have a certain memory of awe
for the sky (it doesn't look the same to me) and young enough that even though growing up near JFK, a plane passing overhead was something to stop and look at.

I would try to stop blinking, or
swallowing, or breathing. That I couldn't stop these repetitive and intrusive activities frustrated me quite a bit.

Well, that certainly is stream of thought.

Boredom is not something to treat with psychiatric medication, you have to find something fun to do :)

I have found for me, boredom begets boredom, it's a cycle.

The state of being bored, given to the path of least resistance, will just cause more disengagement and disinterest. I can excuse my way into disengagement, disinterest and general misery all day. That's easy for me. I have to work at getting myself out.... Behaveing my way out of it. I can't alter my feelings by pondering my way beyond them. Action changes my thought and attitudes .... Not the other way around. No spirit will suddenly befall me and have me not bored and not disengaged.

I can think of many drugs, once used in psychiatric practice, that are excellent treatments for this under-diagnosed illness.

When I feel bored, it's usually not because I have nothing to do. It's because I can't focus on what I'm supposed to be doing, like work. So, I'm hoping the right ADD med will help me with this.

Boredom is in your mind. In theory, you should be able to muster an interest in whatever you happen to be doing, like you're supposed to be able to feel grateful for what you have, even if it's not much. I've never been able to force myself to feel grateful. I think all suffering is real, even if, by some measure, you have it better than someone else. A lifestyle free from abject poverty still has its own risks.

Mt Dew,

ADD here, too. The inattentive type can be difficult to spot in a crowd or even in one's own self--that it isn't 'abject' laziness :-|

Dexedrine really worked for me. In retrospect, I felt a slight push to do when on it and I would dream of life w/o that push. For myself it possibly contributed to presentation or earlier presentation of fibromyalgia. However, I think I expected my meds to do all the work. (Sigh.)

Dex felt very good in that oft said way of feeling 'normal'. Could this be what the rest of the world feels like? For now, my dex is shelved because of health stuff. I
am definitely more fuzzy headed again. But I'm also off any AD.

So there's my encouragement and my cautionary advisory. Have you ever tried the dexedrine by itself? (I'm really
curious; not suggesting you should.) Sometimes I think that w/o an AD on board would have been better in my own case.

Good luck w/ transitioning and obtaining your prescription.

I thought I had CFS a few years ago. It's imperative that I start being able to work efficiently. I've tried everything else.

Oh cr*p. Sorry to hear that. Definitely take rest days in between dex days if possible. If that continues as an issue. Don't succumb to over-do syndrome.

(Super best thoughts your way. And just my experience, not yours, or expecting mine to be yours. Very positive for you while knowledge is power <3 )

Did you also find that Ritalin did nothing for your concentration?

Never tried it. Went straight to dex w/ first script. Only later realized how rare that is. My depression was massive and frightful at the time.

I didn't want to take it, so tried provigil which I did not like and surrendered to my provider.

I seem sensitive to meds and med trials. I can only imagine the sides ritalin could cause me. I reacted badly to strattera (different class of med). Scared me silly.

Did you try ritalin yet? (I forgot--sorry.) Had to keep a med journal while on dex. Good habit. Still do. Since I can't think now. :-|

Good, good luck. Most folks here like adderall?

Yes. I have a Ritalin script now. It doesn't help my concentration. Doctors like to prescribe Adderall more than Dexedrine. I don't really understand why. I think there is a perception that's more abusable.

Isn't it more apt to be used illegally? I don't know, but since I had a scrip for a few years, I heard that it has a very high street value. I was advised to lock my cabinet, mind my purse, blah, blah. I am such a plain Jane, I don't really have anything worth stealing. Then this criminal bait, lol, enters my life.

I believe it works faster, cleaner, and if someone wants to abuse, it's more like providing jet fuel than desiel. Plus, can't it be cooked down and injected?

It was all TMI time for me :D

The other stims have molecules bonded them to slow down the release, maybe even intentionally provide sides (?).

For the add/adhd user, the dosage self-adjusts, then tops out. Increase no longer provides benefits and the sides increase, and the ratio between the two reverse.

I think the deterrence of Adderall is exaggerated. And most people looking for thrills would choose methamphetamine, which is everywhere in San Diego.

Oh. But isn't using meth like Russian roulette?

I don't really know. How is the built-in deterrence exaggerated?
