Today's my third day taking taking 5mg of Buspar twice a day. The anxiety it's causing is unbearable; I feel like adrenaline is coarsing through me all day long.
My guess is it's the alpha-2 antagonism of the metabolite at work.
The catch is . . it's the only thing giving me enough energy to start working again right now . . but it's not really nice to feel like this (my manager kept commenting about how nervous I looked).
Should I give the anxiety more time?

I don't know years ago took 5mg with benzos but didn't notice anything. Don't they give higher doses now? In what way is the anxiety showing or making you feel? Phillipa

Perhaps a few days of a benzo would be useful and appropriate. Say diazepam 5mg twice a day.

You are probably correct. I would think the most likely culprit is the a2 antagonism. That's why it feels like adrenaline, because it is. I could never figure out how such a mechanism could be part of an anti-anxiety med. I don't know how it adjusts over time, but I guess it does.
Whether to stay with it or not, I don't know. If it were me, I would be reducing the dose to 1/2 pill twice a day instead of a whole pill twice a day.
Better than that though, I would have done Lemon Balm, Passionflower, and Skullcap....individually and combined trials...before even thinking about a med.
This is the end of the thread.
