I tried pregabalin, but I can't answer your question. Anxiety was not an issue with me at the time. If you find gabapentin helpful, that might be enough reason to give pregabalin a quick run. Like gabapentin, it can reduce amygdala activity via the inhibition of alpha2delta subunit of presynaptic voltage-gated calcium receptors. I seem to remember changes in temporal lobe activity as being another mechanism by which these drugs exert anxiolysis.

A few ex-babblers used it for anxiety said lower doses in l00mg range helped with anxiety but in higher doses more a stimulant. Also since you say you're thin wouldn't be an issue some say weight gain too. I think swelling was the biggest complaint. Phillipa so in essence yes for anxiety buy more side effects than benzos.

I tried Lyrica at various doses (25mg- 900 mg/day) to treat GAD.
Found that my okay dose was 50mg at night, and 25mg PRN, taking no more than 100mg/day.
Higher doses (150-300) made me absolutely euphoric, a lot like alcohol intoxication without the sick feeling; this effect would last for over 24 hours. Unlike gabapentin, I didn't notice any tolerance building during the month I trialled it.
I wound up ditching pregabalin, as clonazapam alone works much better for my GAD and I'm not tempted to misuse it. For me, Lyrica's benefits were marginal at best.

Strange that gabapenting and pregabalin have some abuse potential. From the mechanism (calcium channel blockade) this wouldn't seem to happen. Usually calcium channel blockers are antimanic.

I'm not sure about the pharmacodynamics of pregaba/gabapentin, and why these two compounds affect me so strongly.
We're all so different, maybe this is idiosyncratically similar to the rush that many people report experiencing with benzos, which, thankfully, I've never personally felt.
All I know is that I need to steer clear from Lyrica and Neurontin as they provide a temporary and completely artificial respite from my depression and anxiety. I'm talking about a buzzed/high feeling, not lasting relief - akin to alcohol, which I also avoid.
Having said all that, Linkadge, are you interested in trying Lyrica for GAD? It might just help. My advice would be to start low and gauge your response slowly - in typical pharma fashion, I think that the recommended dosing is far too high (600mg Lyrica had me high as a kite for two days).
