I've came across many diffrent blockages that prevent me from being treated at a mental hospital but ... what exactly do you tell them, if you write it down. I need to see a doctor and the one I see ignores me.
I know that ... mmm if you feel you suicidal, im not suicidal yet I have thoughts of killing myself either through driving off a cliff or something and it just comes and goes. Its not active and prodominant to act on it. Believe me, im chicken to do anything...and it scares me that my mom controls me so much to wear it is to the point of suicide, but she only controls my medications and yes ... the unethical doctor lets her in the sessions to have a say so. So that's a dead end, and I don't want to rely on that doctor anymore because she does done nothing.
What are statements that you say? for a mental hospital because i've gone in there before and they didnt do anything, and that's just the thing when nothing happens things get worse.
What do you say to the admitting doctor?

I was taken involuntarily to the hospital when threatening suicide. I couldn't actually do it, but was in a rage at the time and saying I would do it. During the interview at the emergency room they pretty much wanted to know if I was determined to kill myself if they let me go and how I planned on doing it. They got the sense during the interview that I was more talk than action.
Bottom line...to get in you will have to convince them you do intend to kill yourself immediately and you know how you are going to do it. There is a difference between someone who feels so crappy they think about suicide, and someone who is for sure going to do it, and the medical interviewers know how to determine which of those you are.
So basically, at least in my area, if you wanted to be admitted you would have to lie and be convincing about it.
The psych wards don't usually have enough room for everyone who needs psychiatric attention. Only the most serious cases get the beds. As an example I was found at the end of a hall on my knees sobbing uncontrollably I was so depressed and hopeless....they let me out the next day....someone more serious than me needed my bed...which I guess was a schizophrenic in a psychotic rage posing a threat to the public. They posed more of a danger than me, even though I probably felt worse than they did, so they got in, I was let go.
My experience was that a hospital stay wasn't a productive option anyway. Many of the doctors there are in residency training. The head honchos are very busy and accustomed to the in-and-out rotation thing, so they may or may not display the kind of rescue you would hope for. Their med ideas were not really any different than my own GP.
Their primary goal is to "stabilize" the patient. That doesn't mean the goal is to get you well. Nice if it happens, but not the goal. The goal is to stabilize the situation. It means basically buying some time to get through the immediate trauma so they can let you go and give the bed to someone else. You may be put on a new med, but you'll be back on the streets within just days of starting that new med.
I'm sure things vary depending on the city, the region, the country.
Some hospitals are famous for having cutting edge psych units. Those would probably offer you more creative expertise than an average hospital.
Wish you didn't feel so bad.

Hey RJ, sounds terrible. I used to have that kind of thinking-without-acting on suicide a lot. Repetitive, intrusive thoughts. I don't know how old you are or what meds you are on, but there are meds that can help that sort of thinking so yeah you really need a doctor of your own, not someone who is essentially your mother's doctor and is treating _her_ for the "disease" of having a troubled and troubling son. Mental illness is as much social as it is neurochemical and your social / family situation sounds bad. What are your options for changing docs? For putting some distance between you and your mother? The main thing to keep in mind while you look for ways to make changes is that things are not hopeless -- you can get yourself stable.

Are you in the USA? Is the insurance your mothers. If so that sucks! If you can get the insurance card and find a doctor on your own and not tell mom. That would be good. Maybe you could just try to reason with your mom and tell her you want to talk to the doctor privatly. Maybe she would understand?
I was sent to the hospital in USA, just for saying to a docotr that (I was new in the US, from CA) and I said that I was worried that I might drive into the median. More like I didn't understand how the roads work down here. She sent me to the hospital. The admiting doctor asked if I wanted to be admited or not it was my choice. I said I would just because I was there and they sent me in for a week or so. When I was in canada they sent me to the hospital and asked me to sign in or else they would. I was in there for 3 months, they gave me ECTs, meds and a bed. Treated me till I was stable and let me go. I left and went off the meds got sent back to the hospital for 3 more months. That time I learned my lesson, (take meds). Didn't have to go to the hospital again till I got to the US. I've been taking my meds non stop and avoided the hospital for 12 years now, since being on zyprexa.
Anyways you could just say you want to go to the hospital and they might let you? Just tell them what you said on here. I guess it make a difference if you have insurance. If your not in the US you should be able to just go and check in?
Why do you want to go to the hospital. Are your meds not helping? What you should do is take charge of your own treatment. Tell the doctor you don't want to talk with your mom in the room.

ok ... thanks everyone for the responses. I ... can't do it, because i don't feel like hurting myself ... and that's lying and I don't want to do that, waste my time.
The main thing is getting treated by my doctor and ... talk to her alone. I don't know if she has it worked out with my mother, I have to respect my mother, alot of times in the past I... did not, and ... i feel morally bad for saying things against her. The main thing is she controls treatment.
I'll try to go to a hospital because my meds arnt working but i rarely believe the'll let me stay.
Thanks.

They will let you stay if they want to play around with your meds. Tell them what has been going on. You may not be suicidal but you are feeling *desperate*. I bet if you told them what you mom does they might hospitalize you. You never know. But I have been hospitalize for med changes. It's a safe environment to play with meds.
Also you might get access to a social worker who will help you with your family situation.
You don't have to be suicidal to be in the hospital.
Going into hospital can be helpful. They will link you up with resources for when you leave the hospital.
Even if they don't admit you, you can ask to meet with a social worker and see if she/he can help you with your family situation.
Good luck. You really deserve help.
