Amitriptyline has a nasty withdrawl. It makes me hate everybody and everything.

Sorry it's so hard. Are you tapering off before starting something else or are you switching? How many mgs. were you on and how long?

Pretty much all psych meds can have withdrawal symptoms. I hope you tapered slowly Linkadge.

Sorry Link! I know you've been through this crap before. It sucks. Probably a cholinergic rebound. Should be short-lived, I would venture a guess in the 3 to 5 day period. You haven't been on it that long and your doses were low, so that is all in your favor.

>Yeah, amitriptyline is one nasty beast to withdraw from. I'm currently withdrawing from 25mg, am on 10mg now, and I have strong morning anxiety, probably from rebound 5HT2A activation.
I'm withdrawing from amitriptyline because my new drug Deanxit (fixed combination of an obscure TCA with the AP flupentixol) is helping me out tremendously.
If withdrawal gets the better of you, I'd throw in a benzo. You could also switch to nortriptyline intermittently, just to make withdrawal less harsh.
Ever thought about switching to trimipramine?

Sorry about the withdrawal problems. Why are you stopping - just tired of the side effects?

That's good news. I guess you are somewhere in Europe? Deanxit only seems to be available in a few countries.

Flupentixol is available here, although mostly used as an AP only, I think. I hope to have it prescribed soon.

Interesting. Great that it's helping. We only have Fluanxol here (flupentixol 0.5mg and 1mg tabs), made by Lundbeck.

Sorry to hear you are having such severe withdrawal symptoms from such a small dose.
Have you had this problem before? Are you sure it is the withdrawal from the amitriptyline. How do you know it is not the new drug that is creating problems. Not trying to add to your anxiety here. I've taken up to around 200mg of amitriptyline and I had been able to withdraw from that amount rather quickly say down to 0 over 2 months. I realize everyone's reaction to drugs is different.
This is the end of the thread.
