If it means anything I take all 4 of those meds. Albeit only 100mg of Seroquel (for sleep) and currently just 10mg of Parnate (hoping to raise that to 30 when I see him on monday). Also take a small dose of lithium.

If I had to choose I'd probably pick Lamictal despite the fact you have to titrate slowly. So far the Parnate effect has been mild - but again I'm on a super small dose at the moment....

One's an ad and one a mood stabalizer? Why two different classes of meds for choices? Phillipa

I would go with Lamictal. When I started taking it it really boosted my mood. I've heard that people have tried it for depression when they don't respond to SSRIs. I have been on Lamictal and Seroquel for years and it has been a very good combination for me. I have no side effects with Lamictal. Of course, it is different for everyone.

I don't know much about Parnate, but isn't it an MAOI, and don't MAOIs require diet restrictions and stuff? I'm not sure if this is true, but if it is then this would definitely make me lean toward trying Lamictal first.

Those meds are so different. I guess try the lamictal first and then the Parnate.

I'm on both now. I would recommend trying the lamictal first due to the low side effect profile. It really helped my depression when I first started it. I really like the Parnate too but I do have more side effects from it (insomnia, acne, hypotension, diet restrictions) whereas I had none from Lamictal.

Hi cee-

It seems like with the Klonopin and Seroquel you are already on 2 mood stabilizers, so maybe the Parnate is the better option? I have no experience with parnate, although I do take Lamictal and really like it for depression. Actually works better than ssri for me. herpills

Lamictal should definitely help your depression. It's been the cornerstone of my "cocktail" for the last couple years. Only sad thing is that you need to taper up very slowly. But once you start getting to 50mg+ you should notice a good AD effect. Some notice it at 25mg even. And for me it was really side effect free. I AM bipolar but personally I think it's better than SSRIs for standard depression....no sexual side effects/etc

I currently take 150mg.

Good luck on your trial!
