Parnate withdrawal - Feeling better

Posted by ColoradoSnowflake on January 3, 2010, at 19:03:33

Hi Everybody:

Thanks to all of you who have given me so much support and help while I've been so sick from this Parnate withdrawal!!

I'm finally feeling better!!!!

My rheumatoid arthritis (which I've had since the first time I tried Parnate 15 years ago!) got so bad I was a basket case. I quit eating for four or five days, drinking only lots of fresh lemon water and a little fruit/veg juice. This always works for me when I have a bad R.A. excerbation, and it has again. I'm afraid to eat now.

I'm now down to 50mg/day Parnate, down from 80mg/day. My plan is to SLOWLY lower it until my other symptoms have gone away. I'm much better now, but still have terribly itchy skin all over my body!! I'm still having chills. Other than that, I feel good. The Parnate is still doing it's great job. The dizziness and brain fog are gone.

I do believe I am allergic to Parnate and my liver and autoimmune system got overwhelmed.

I also believe I will be able to find a Parnate dosage that allows me the big benefits it has for me but isn't toxic for me.

Now that I know I have Hashimoto's thyroid I will go on the Celiac gluten free diet when I start eating again. I think that will probably add yet more to my feeling so good.

I'm still a happy camper to be on Parnate. It continues to make me feel better than I have for years, so I'll continue to find a way to have it be my main AD.

Thanks again everybody! You're a great bunch of guys!

xxoo

Current cocktail:
50mg Parnate
150-200mg Provigil
5-10mg Nortriptyline

Gayle this whole autoimmune thing as also have hasimotos and have had strange reactions even to surgery makes me wonder if a foreign substance in our body is responsible for a lot of this. I didn't realize you'd been on parnate 15 years ago. Then did you have the RA and Thyroid? Makes me wonder if answer is no could it have triggered it no scientific basis. Just wondering. You are one fiesty woman. Phillipa

I reread and see that 15 years ago you also had RA. If allergic how can you stay on parnate? I don't know. Love Phillipa

Hi Gayle, I am curious about the above. Why a gluten free diet for Hashimotos? I ask because I have it myself.

Phillipa - I didn't have R.A. until Parnate provoked my first episode (BAD ONE) years ago. I am desparate to feel better and nothing else worked for me so I tried Parnate again and think I'll be able to tolerate enough to take the deep fear and suicidal feelings away.

Maxie - One of my sons is a Practitiioner of Chinese Medicine, Herbs, Acupuncture. He has been on my case for years about my thyroid and my diet. Well, he was right. I do have Hash-- and he says 95+% of people who have it also have gluten intolerance if not full blown Celiac Disease. I have been so sick I decided to bite the bullet and go gluten free for the New Year. I'll also see what blood tests the "alternative health" people have. He thinks if I get my diet right I'll address most of my depression, my R.A. and my fatigue.

I am a sugar addict (also a recovering alcoholic which often goes together with the sugar thing). No, I'm not cutting out sugar...that would just be too much. Since my gentleman friend died sugar is the only pleasure I have left.

My son treats many people with thyroid disorders very successfully. I'm lucky to have him interested in my health. (I just don't much like him telling me what to do!). I'll keep you posted on how it goes and Babblemail me anytime.

Wonderful news for the new year--thanks for the update Gayle. Another storm weathered--whew.

Are you getting back into a comfort zone?

I look forward to hearing about how diet helps out.

Gayle sorry had forgotten all that. Still make me wonder about the role parnate played in the autoimmune? Phillipa
