Does anyone have experience taking Parnate and lithium concurrently? I am on Nardil (1 year), Lamictal, lithium, and Abilify. But have been having disturbing and noticeable side effects from the Nardil. I am interested in a trial of Parnate instead of the Nardil, but my doctor does not want to because of the risk of lithium toxicity and seritonin syndrome. I would appreciate any feedback on this combination.

I just added lithium to my treatment regime a few days ago. I have heard of one or two cases where lithium created a SS problem when added to an antidepressant. Lithium has long been thought to be a particularly good augmenter of Parnate. Why does your doctor worry about SS more with Parnate than with Nardil. I would think that it should be the other way around, if anything.
My current regime:Parnate 80mg
nortriptyline 150mg
Lamictal 200mg
Abilify 20mg
lithium 300mg

Thank you, Scott. How is it going with the lithium? (I know it is a little soon.)

The first few days were very encouraging. I would not have felt as much improved as I did those days without the lithium. There is no doubt in my mind that it was helping. Unfortunately, my treatment history is littered with brief 3-4 day responses whereupon I return to baseline.
Today, I am not as encouraged as I had been yesterday. Who knows what the future will hold? If lithium just completely stops working for me today, I will have experienced another 3-day response.
Damned stubborn brain!
I'll know more over the next few days.

Scott,
I also experience these 3-5 days of a med working after a few days on a med.... why is that? I know it's not placebo.... any reasons why that happens or any suggestions as to what may stop it from happening?
Hope that today was just a blip for you and that tomorrow is better....

> Scott,
> I also experience these 3-5 days of a med working after a few days on a med.... why is that?I have not come across an explanation for it yet. It probably has something to do with an inhibitory feedback mechanism not allowing for an extended increase in brain activity along the affected pathways. Maybe the hypothalamus is involved. The thermostat refuses to be reset. For me, 3 days is all I get. It doesn't matter what the drug is or how long is the period of latency.

Thanks.
