Paradoxical effect of Benzo XXlow dosage.

Posted by neo on May 14, 2009, at 17:51:00

Hi to all and excuse my English!
This is very strange!
After using every kind of Ad against my distymic disorder (low mood, anergye, a little social phobic disorder...) with no results or a worsening... I tried to use, a Benzo (that i use at night for helping sleep) in a very low dosage, during the day.
I took (now, by 2 weeks) about 20% or less, of the normal dosage recommended for the drug (an Benzo derivated from Diazepan but with a long life in the body).
I was sure that it would have no helped me at all, or given the "somnolence" effect that i have when i take a normal dosage of the Benzo during the day.
The results was quite incredible for me, and I repeat it day by day before being sure and write this post.
I feel very "stimulated", energic and the mood is very lifted. I feel almost well and "normal". I am able to do several things that last month I wasn't able even to programme. This for me is very much! But I know that it could be only an "placebo" effect, because i wasn't able to find anything about this "paradoxical" effect of Benzo. Do you have any similar experience or knowledge to share?
Many thanks in advace!
Neo

What is the drug?

What is the dosage you are taking?

The active substance is Delorazepam, also called Clordemetildiazepam.

> What is the dosage you are taking?
I use 0.1-0.15 mg twice a day.
The recommanded dosage is 0.5-1.0 mg twice a day.

Well when I suffered from constant untreated anxiety then took an Ativan, I became instantly "cured"; energetic, happy, great. I attributed it to the relief from torturous anxiety, not from a chemical reaction on mood from the Benzos.

Some people say they have an AD affect, but for me personally, I can't possibly see how an anti-depressant effect could emerge from within an hour of taking one. That's just an opinion though, not fact.

Yes! It could really be so!
But, i have some doubts about this: Why only the very low dosage acts in this way?
If i take the recommended dosage, i get the opposite effect. It sounds strange, if it was a normal effect of benzo, it could work, at least at the same way, at the normal dosage. Really don't know!

Well maybe it's because a low dose erases the anxiety, allowing you to feel 'normal', while a higher dose is more sedating?

I thought it would be interesting to see what type of benzos you were taking...

Could "Delorazepam, also called Clordemetildiazepambe"

Be the same drug(s) as U.S. versions chlordiazepoxide (Librium) and diazepam (Valium)?

p.s. Are you from Italy?

I experienced the exact same thing years ago when the anxiety was lifted felt so great and energetic. First was valium, then ativan, then xanax. Now it's valium and xanax and am lowering doses as when thyroid went was forced to take higher doses now they make me tired. So your experience to me is the real thing. Savor it!!!!! Love Phillipa

Hi Garnet!

>Well maybe it's because a low dose erases the anxiety, allowing you to feel 'normal', while a higher dose is more sedating? >

Yes!This could be a good answer! Probably at higher dosages the "sedative" effect is predominant, but at lower dosage we have a predominant anti-anxiet effect with no sedation.

Here in UE the brand name of the substances is "EN".
In my opinion, the drugs are different, because also here Librium and Valium are on the market as different drugs. Never used them, so i don't know if the effect is the same on those drugs too.

> p.s. Are you from Italy?
Ahh! Yes!

Hi Philippa!
Thank you very much indeed for your share!
In my case only very low dosages are helpful. Highere dosage, make me sedated and tired.
Un saluto!

I tried Lorazepam for a few days years ago. I experienced a rather pronounced antidepressant effect right away. Three days later it felt like I was getting worse. Looking back, I think my doctor gave me too much. Really low doses should have been tried instead.

I have a friend who takes Lorazepam daily and has for years. He takes it for neuromuscular spasms and jerks from a car crash years ago. The guy is always upbeat and in a good mood with no outward sign of benzo use at all, except that he is happy.

Philippa, excuse me! I understand what you are writing in this sentence, but... i am not able to "catch" the real meaning of it! :(

What part of Italy?
Oh, near Venice.

Ciao.

Benzos make me more depressed, especially the ones with longer half-lives.

Yes! I am completely in accordance with you.
If i take Benzos (regardless to its half-lives) i became depressed and ... sad.
The strange is this effect so different that i feel at a very low dosage.
I know it is a subjective effect, but i have never felt so... nice since years. Probably it depends on something else... but, as it lasts...
