For about 4 days I have been taking 100mg nefazadone and dropped the lexapro. Wanna know if my side effects are normal, and if you think they will level out. Sleep has been bad, last night I layed there for six hours before falling asleep, then was out cold till 1:30 the next day. My appetite is not very good, and i have lost a considerable amount of weight. I get hungry late at night while trying to sleep, but during the day I kind of have to force myself to sleep. The sexual side effects of lexapro seemed to have dissipated. Is my body just in limbo from the trasition. Do you think I will adjust and my sleep/appetite will normalize. This is getting frustrating.

I took nefazodone for almost 10 years and out of all the prescription AD's I tried, this was the most tolerable for me.
I made me sleep very well, I took my whole dose at bedtime and it would usually knock me cold within about 45 mins. It seems strange that it kept you up, maybe its the interaction of the new drug and tapering off the Lexapro ( I hated Lexapro by the way). The side effects I noticed when I would start Nefazodone were: hard to get up in the morning, felt kind of spacy/drowsy during the day, also if I stayed up very long after I took it, I would feel very nauseated.
All of these would go away within about a week and half usually.
Although it was not extremely effective for depression, it was great for anxiety, sleeping, and the fact that it lacks sexual side effects is very rare in an AD.
I would give it a bit more time and not make any judgments on how you react until you get the Lexapro out of your system.

Well, let me put that in context... No other prescription medicine helped with depression at all, so the fact that this helped made it the winner for me.
Also, look into some old threads or articles where people combine Nefazodone and low dose Pindolol. I know there are studies that say this combo improves the antidepressant effect of nefazodone.

In my opinion it is almost all entirely post-lexapro stuff you are feeling. My guess is it will take 3 to 6 weeks for things to settle down. If you think about it, it takes at least that long for the nervous system to begin to adjust while getting on, so logic says it will take the same amount of time to adjust after getting off. In my own experiences it actually takes longer. I'm trying to be optimistic at 3 to 6 weeks, but for me it is usually in the 6 to 12 week range. Sometimes switching from one med to another can help smooth things out somewhat but not entirely, but sometimes if there is not enough overlap in their pharmacology then not. Serzone and lexapro are vastly different drugs, so you are in fact feeling post-lexapro stuff, and the low dose of serzone is not likely enough to cause the kinds of things you are feeling.
Lexapro withdrawals.
