Hey, all.
I've been on 150 mgs. of Zoloft (and 1 mg. of Klonipin) for several weeks now for depression and social anxiety. Every time I go up on the Zoloft, I feel better for about a week, then it starts to poop out. I know this is all pretty much a crapshoot, but has anyone had success augmenting Zoloft with other meds, or would anyone have any suggestions about what to try? Many, many thanks.

Lithium and low dose atypical anti-psychotics would be the usual things to use.

There are many options for augmenting SSRIs like Zoloft. Wellbutrin is an option, although probably not the best choice if you also have anxiety as it can increase anxiety in some people. Another option would be a mood stabilizer such as Lamictal or Lithium. When you say "poop out," which symptoms are returning?
Other options include buspirone, pindolol, and atypical antipsychotics.

> Thanks. When I say the symptoms return after pooping out, I mean both the depression (primarily), and the anxiety both. I don't think the Zoloft has done much for the anxiety; I think it's primarily the depression it helps. A few meds other people have mentioned to try as augmentation agents are Strattera, Memantine, Pamelor, and Provigil.

Augmenting Zoloft with Straterra might be a good option. Straterra is FDA-approved for ADHD, but was originally developed as an antidepressant. It inhibits norepinephrine reuptake, which would work well in combination with Zoloft which inhibits serotonin reuptake. Another option would be switching to a dual reuptake inhibitor such as Effexor, Cymbalta, or Pristiq. These medications inhibit reuptake of both serotonin and norepinephrine.

I'd try modafinil first if you're not suffering from anxiety, or maybe a DA. I found the Dopamine Agonist ropinirole (requip/repreve) and zoloft was a great combo. I don't tolerate SSRI's very well at all, but when ropinirole was added it made things much better, I stopped the zoloft which was horrendous for me personally and continued on with the ropinirole. Once the zoloft withdrawal was over I did much better on the ropinirole alone. It just got too expensive though and it can have some side effects, so I switched to modafinil which is slightly cheaper where I live, it works even better and I virtually have no side effects from it at all.
I never took zoloft and modafinil at the same time though, Peace C
