supplements to add to current meds?

Posted by mogger on September 18, 2008, at 0:31:11

Hello,
I am on
300mg Lamictal
5mg Zyprexa
90mg Buspar
45mg Remeron
18grams Inositol
200mg Zoloft

I know it is a massive combo but it does all help so much. My question is there any natural supplement that i might take to augment this combo? With the addition of the inositol my ocd has literally vanished which is awesome but I do get a bit of residual depression. Any thoughts?
many thanks,
mogger

Hi mogger have you tried luvox? Love Phillipa ps I know it's not natural supplement. And I guess you'd have to switch from zoloft.

Hi mogger glad that inositol is working. Here are a few basics that can help with depression and have positive health effects;

I think everyone should be on fish oil. 1-3g of total EPA+DHA.

A multivitamin, and a b-vitamin complex, one with 400mcg of folate.

Vitamin d (D3, 1,000 IU)

I'll second that list. I take a Multi and Fish Oil for DHA plus glucosamine-chondroitin-MSM for joint pain and a low-dose aspirin to protect my heart.

If you eat supplemented bread and take a multi, you are already getting quite a bit of the B-complex. If you drink supplemented milk and take a multi, your vitamin D levels should be good, too.

I'm very leery of St. John's Wart. The amount of active chemicals vary widely from plant to plant and region to region. Adding it could disrupt the balance of your meds, but not every time, creating very misleading "data" for you to evaluate.

I forgot SAM-e. It didn't help me, but some people do benefit.

My psychiatrist just added Deplin to the mix. It's L-Methylfolate and is believed to aid in the production of certain chemicals. Haven't noticed much change yet, but he says it may improve the effectiveness of my other meds.

What's a good bulk source of Inistol? It seems to be pretty expensive.

Thanks.

I purchase from iherb as well, although i haven't gotten inositol before. Bulknutrition.com is another good site and where i've gotten bulk inositol before; they have a large selection of bulk and normal size nootropics and nutrients and especially protein and other bodybuilding/weight loss stuff.
