Just home from pdocs and she said I am extremely depressed and even suggested hospital said no. So she said up luvox. Change me from valium to xanax hoping after having been off it for years it will again work. Also she gave me this med Arnrix supposed to be some flexaril and something else for spasms and pain as my back is horrible. But read insert and says not to take if hyperthyroid and I'm still that so what to do. Down 35 pounds now. Lighter than in 20's . Not to say didn't want to lose weight but not like this and diet the same. thanks Phillipa

It appears to be a patent extender or new market enterer for an extended release of Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine). It is related to the tricyclics.
I found it "yucky", but your miles may vary. I went through various things until I was put on Robaxin.
I am drug sensitive to Robaxin and can only take a certain dose before I get a febrile situation for a half life. Robaxin is distantly related to Soma which I wish I could have but is a no-no with Valium on board.
Anyhow that's my story -- if you are in need of a muscle relaxant you could try it, who knows it might have an almost nonexistant antidepressant effect too. I dont remember what I didn't like about it -- I think whatever anticholinergic effects it was doing.
-- hope that helps

Hospital are not places you want to go unless you're flat out suicidal or in danger of harming others or it is in connection with a day treatment program.
As my psychologist mused, you really might as well check yourself into a hotel.
Taking yourself away from the familiarity of the environment that you're used to living in and going into a situation where depending on the level of care you might see a doctor a couple of times a day and a nurse a few times. It all depends on the state of care that is going on at the hospital and the worst of them are notorious for being, well, not exactly JCAHO quality. So she said up luvox. Change me from valium to xanax hoping after having been off it for years it will again work.
There's a good chance that if you have been off a benzodiazepine for years it will work again, but then again you're still on some perpetually low dose of Valium, so its hard to say.
And yes, do stick to the Luvox if she suggested it -- Cymbalta and other agents are more powerful for TRD but if she thinks Luvox will help you and you have gotten up to a small level on it before, give it a try, expect it to have side effects, and allow the level to be raised to something therapeutic, Jan.
Also she gave me this med Arnrix supposed to be some flexaril and something else for spasms and pain as my back is horrible. But read insert and says not to take if hyperthyroid and I'm still that so what to do.There are a lot of things in inserts that will make reference to particular disorders, that doesn't mean its an absolute. I assume she is aware of your medical history or wouldn't have prescribed it to you? Do be forthwart about your medical history and concerns and make sure that you're not passive in your sessions.

I wish I could say the same about weight... Sometimes you just have to look on the amusement side of things that aren't terribly amusing, in fact serious, because life isn't worth living stalwart.

Jay thanks not sure what or how to do the luvox as don't notice a thing on it . So many years on the low doses. Never take meds during the day. So what's your recommendation of doses as once at 250 it did work well. And she can be rather dense as she also gave me a brochure on CBT and said it was by telephone and it's not it's computer. At www.ctstrep.com haven't checked it out. There is a password in the brochure. And no she doesn't know the thyroid is hyper as I truly don't know why this endo wants it so low when at 2.5 felt better and feel they are changing the dose too slowly. Can't talk to him as he doesn't take phone calls everything is through nurses and they forget. Love Jan

Yes, at the doses you were taking you're not getting any benefit from it particularly, especially since you said you were also a fast metabolizer once i believe.
Never take meds during the day.
Well if you're taking benzodiazepines and thats about it, nighttime is probably just as well.
So what's your recommendation of doses as once at 250 it did work well.
Yes, at least 250. Although it has a listed upper ceiling at 300 it can be dosed to 450. It has a fairly wide range of dosing but you're not going to get much benefit until you get above 200. (at least for most people)
And she can be rather dense as she also gave me a brochure on CBT and said it was by telephone and it's not it's computer. At www.ctstrep.com haven't checked it out. I haven't heard of any "CBT" by telephone or computer, but I suppose there might be a novel way. There is a classic book called "Feeling Good" which explains a number of things including CBT.
CBT is really something that you either need a therapist for or you follow up on your own by reading books about CBT therapy such as the one I mentioned before.
CBT books typically have question and answer sections in the book and diary keeping and various things to help you motivate yourself to do CBT.

Jay had that book read it from cover to cover. So I'm assuming you feel that the higher doses of luvox might seriously work even though been on them so long? Love Jan

So the book may bore you -- but believe me I'm sure there are others out there. And be careful of what you choose -- I mean, for whatever works, works, but personally I wouldn't follow some alternative book that cites no resources and isn't associated with some prominent university researcher. Then again, as I say, you're free to choose what you wish. I don't know of any off the top of my head other that one which is typically recommended by a lot of psychologists or at least used to be.The important thing is you have to be determined.
As to the luvox --
Yes to whatever extent they can be helpful to you -- not everyone is a responder at a certain dose. Why wait? The doses you've quoted in the past, even accounting for your age and sex, don't sound like typical therapeutic doses, honestly, but only you would know.-- Jay
