Hi
I was wondering if anyone here has had a change in skin colour that was proven or suspected to be due to Wellbutrin.
I have developed a few small blue-grey mark on my lips and there is a general change in the colour of my tongue with streaks that do not scrape off that are also blue-grey'ish.
Wellbutrin is the only drug that I have recently started and i dont take anything else that I can find is associate with these changes. I used to take minocycline for acne, however, it has been several months since I last took it, the problem has only just started and seems to be getting worse.
I have an appointment to see my GP next Friday in the hope he can shed some light on it.
I looked up the tongue colour changes that occur with addisons disease and it looks like that which is worrying me, as I cant find anything that says when it is treated the colour change goes away.
Any help at all would be much appreciated
Thanks
James

My Mother had Addison's Disease and it was an all over Bronze color to her skin. No recollection of blue or gray in tongue? Love Phillipa

Hi Philipa
It is funny you should mention that it was one of the conditions that has come up while searching on Google for information. The pictures I can see look very similar to the early stages of it, I think I need to go back an see my Doctor sooner as I have developed additional colour change on my forehead in an irregular pattern.
I am starting to panic a bit, but have seen may sits were they do show lasers being able to remove the discolouration.
Will post again after I see my Doc, I was to confirm I am not imagining it to begin with as it is pretty light in colour.

My memory is going too as I put the addisons part in the first post, mind you I think that is the Wellbutrin.
I have already taken today's dose, I dont know if it is okay to go cold turkey from it or if I should try and taper the dose. This is the first time I have come in to contact with the drug, I had to import it as here in the UK they will only prescibed it for smoking cessation and nothing else.

I tried Wellbutrin for several weeks. When my dosage was increased (too fast, I think), my skin developed a horrible waxy feel. But no discoloration that I noticed.
I also had bad mental effects, some sort of anxiety combined with intense insomnia. It was a while back and all I remember is the nasty way it made my skin feel and that I discontinued it ASAP. It may be the drug that made me quite catatonic at higher doses. The ill effects disappeared almost immediately on discontinuation.

thanks blueboy
I have been off it now for a week and I certainly feel better mentally, it was making me very edgy and I was having to stop myself acting out my irritations on others. It also gave me a mild but constant headache and I generally felt strange but did not realise it when I was taking it.
As for the skin, I was also on Differn acne gel and it has been very sunny here recently. I have very fair skin with a lot of freckles and never had a tan in my life. The colour change is only on the skin that I applied the gel to so I think that in combination with the sun has made it turn a muddy brown colour.
However, I do have some blueish-purleish marks on my lips which appeared at the same time and because of those I have been referred to a Dermatologist. I think that was the minocycline that I have been on and off of since the mid-90's (I have also had 2 course of roaccutane/accutane). Unfortunately there is a 18 week wating list to see an NHS Dermatologist but i suppose on the other side they would want me to wait quite a while before they bring out a laser to see if the marks disappear with time.
I had been really worried that the lips marks and the face colour change was the same thing, I will not know for sure if it is definitely the Differin as it will take a good 4-6 weeks to fade so I have been told.
