strattera, activation then exhaustion?

Posted by iforgotmypassword on April 8, 2008, at 16:32:52

initial effects were activating. not in the ideal sense, but an improvement. i have been EXHAUSTED FOR THE LAST FEW days, and my executive functionning has collapsed again. my nerve stiffness is awful.

is this exhaustion the strattera, or does straterra exhaustion happen right away, without a period of activation beforehand?

i need to think of something to do. everything is going very badly and i can't do anything.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Have you ever heard about adrenal exhaustion? Hypoadrenalism? Low cortisol?

Your description is classic.

>my nerve stiffness is awful.

You mentioned 'freezing' earlier, and similar things on other previous occasions.

Do you want to say a little more about this?

Is this what is meant by 'leaden depression'?

Is this some state of internal paralysis?

I think that overactivation of NE can lead to adrenal fatigue and hence exhaustion. Ne converts to adrenalin with can be very draining on the body.

i have always felt weak, no energy to get up out of bed was always frequent, i have never used the word 'leaden', or, not consistently to be meaningfully diagnostically. even tho atypical depression was my dx at 17, before that was add and asperger's. last dx psychosis, ironically. it was based simply on my paralysis, which destroyed my speech.

my emotions are simple and primitive, not tied to anything that denotes a capacity to have lived experience, or basic likes or dislikes. really only arguments are salient.

i tie this more to EPS-like effects, rigidity, and feel as if i have parkinson's, but not just physical effects, my ability to command any action, decide.

i have shied away from taking stimulants again, not productive, i am just bizarre and only gain battered lips and tongue. maybe i will try again, if i think of nothing else. unlikely since i don't have a lot towards that decision, and as i said, my decisions are sparse.

my brightest idea now, just suddenly is amantadine, going to leave some stupid message on my doctor's answering machine on why he should prescribe it. i think i have officially given strattera a trial, i still have two more days of it, then i would have to pay for more, an action in and of itself that i would have to justify, whereas amantadine is likely either covered or generic.

justifications:
dopaminergic, has been used for EPS, frontal lobe syndrome, parkinsonism, add, association with decreased movement disorder sx as opposed to increased with stimulants

reservations:

-tolerance associated with dopaminergic route may provide 1 step forward 2 steps back scenario and make me regret ever taking it

-i have no idea the consequences of taking an antiviral drug when you don't need one, used to affect cell membranes or something in a way i don't understand

-anticholinergic (mildly?)

-people here have rarely been helped by it, and if so not for long

-then again, i may as well have brain damage not mental illness, i could be very different

i forget what else, just going to leave this messy, i'm never formal anyway.

again to clarify, i have no coherent dx » iforgotmypassword

just complete disability.

maybe psychosis was diagnosed last time as it's suddenly the new anti-diagnosis now that there are less on-patent drugs (at least in canada) to market and that influencing what to say when stumped, psychiatry has gone back to it's basic diagnostic labels.

Amantadine is a good idea. I had my most potent antidepressive (nearly hypomanic) response ever to it, although as you can guess, only temporarily. If (when) it fails, you can try memantine, which is closely related to amantadine structurally and pharmacologically.

I had the same problem on strattera, it went away when I quit it. Try a lower dose? 25mg, its not as bad.

In case you are wondering, I don't take it anymore. Didn't think it did any thing, and that I'm probably not ADD.

The other thing I found works, is take the dose split into 2 times a day.
