Well I've started on buspar just over a week ago, I reduced the dose of lexapro to 10mg on my own as I didn't think 20mg was working, not sure about the 10mg, I was just anxious and tired on it and more tired all the time but less anxious, I have to drag myself out of bed in the morning and then get really tired in the evening. The anxiety is better with the buspar but I just feel abnormally tired. It's now 10:30 at night and it's about all I can do to type this and then crawl up the stairs to bed.
I tried buspar for about a month (along with Seroxat about a year and a half ago and I remember it just making me more tired then. Should I give it longer than a month, is there any chance this tiredness will dissapate eventually and then there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.

BuSpar sucks. Seriously:: it is not a good medication. Its also kind of antipsychotic-ish, so you run the risks of TD, akathisia, etc. If I were you, I'd push for a benzo.

In the beginning, I was on BuSpar as a monotherapy. I was ridiculously tired after I took it. I fell asleep standing up at work. I fell asleep after lunch just sitting in a chair. I hope BuSpar isn't still advertising as being non-drowsy, because it knocked me out.

I can't the effects of Busbar since I only took it briefly many year ago. I do know that I can't tolerate more than 10mg of Lexapro. After a week of taking 20mg, it was disturbing my sleep even though I took it in the morning and also take 22.5mg of Remeron at bedtime. So you may need some sleep agent if you stay on Lexapro.

Denise-
I had the same problem with Buspar and an SSRI. Pdoc told me to "space out the medications" in order to avoid the tiredness. This means that you should give your body the maximum of time between Lex and Buspar as possible. I take my buspar at 7AM, 2 PM and 9PM. The morning dose is half the afternoon-evening doses because I take my SSRI in the AM.
My pdoc says he thinks the combo of SSRI and Buspar might cause some syndrome of sleepiness because of too much serotonin at once. I used to always need a nap an hour after taking Buspar until I figured out how to space it out so there's never too much in my body at once. It has worked like a charm.
Be well,
jflange

Hi,
Just wanted to thank all of you for responding to my post. I don't think this buspar is doing a lot really. I've been on it for about a month and I'm up to 30mg a day (along with the 10mg of Lexapro). My mood is a bit better with the lexapro but I just feel sluggish most of the time no matter when or how I take the meds.
I don't find the buspar anti-psychotish at all, it doesn't feel half as effective as say Zyprexa and I have to say it does'nt help as much as the Klonopin.
I found the Klonopin quite relaxing without making me tired really. I just don't want to get addicted to it, where I am needing more and more to get the same effective. Having said that I really don't think I've got anything to lose no matter what I do or take. At the end of the day they don't really know how these meds worked, what they are doing when they do work, what they are doing when they don't work and what they are not doing when they stop working :-)
But thanks again to all of you for bothering to get back to me.
Denise
