Hello,
I started Nardil 3.5 weeks ago. I was on 45mgs up until a week ago that I went up to 60mgs.
On 60mgs, I felt some sudden antidepressant relief, but it lasted 2 days and vanished. Then I started with these heart palpitations.
I dont know if I should go up to 90mgs to see if there's some relief at a higher dose. My weight is 133lbs, so I figured I'm at the right dose for my body size. But I'm afraid the palpitations will only get worse at such higher dose.
Has anyone experienced something similar to this on Nardil? As in, sudden relief for a couple of days, but then going back to depression, and then heart palpitations at a higher dose (60mgs)?
Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
c

It sounds as though the heart palpitations are related to the increase in the dose so I would go back to 45 mg. I'm on 60 mg but I weigh more than you by 25 pounds or so. Hold at 45 mg for now and see if the palpitations go away. Stargazer

Thank you for your response. But I don't have any antidepressant relief on 45mg, thats why I went up to 60mg.
In fact, I just got a new prescription for 90mg/day, which I plan to start tomorrow.
I don't really care too much about the palpitations. I take clonazepam and that helps with that.
Do you know what the palpitations mean? Do they mean my blood pressure is going high? Is that a bad/dangerous? It doesn't bother me as much as the depression, so I'd be willing to go through that if the medication will work.
Thanks again

I'm going to do something been criticised for but I suggest a psychbabble google search to see what other posters have said. One name to type in would be Ace. Good luck Phillipa

Thank you for your response, Philipa.
I already searched through psycho-babble, and couldn't find anyone who had palpitations on Nardil. It appears like I'm the first person (that I know of) having this problem.

Palpitations can be from an irregular heart rate or skipped beats, it all depends what the cause of the palpitations are. They may be controlled to some extent with an anti-anxiety med but your doctor should know about them to determine if they need to be worked up. I occasionally have palpitations but having them occur frequently is more of a concern. They are usually not related to BP but if they signal either a low or high heart rate they can offect the BP.
Count your pulse for a minute. It should be of a regular rate without skipped beats and between 60 and 100 beats per minute to be considered normal.
Did you tell your doctor about the palpitations? He or she should either be concerned or not and know whether it is safe to increase the Nardil because of it.
Anything related to the heart, aka cardiac status, has to be paid attention to.
